Recommended by locals who we met on a Saturday night after the Christmas Market this place was buzzing. Nice fire to welcome you on a freezing night I loved everything about this place except for the abrupt barman? Having been shuffled up the bar to allow customers to order in a packed place and juggling to hold my coat, shopping... More

Popped in for a swift drink after visiting Winchester College for evensong. Old school desks for tables around the bar area, and lots to take in, it was very busy and staff were cheery. Good beer selection

Such a happy pub. My husband's favourite when we are in Winchester. I had a cup of tea and it is served on delightfully mismatched Burleigh china. The fires were roaring and it is just a great place to take a break from shopping. We don't eat here any more as the food is quite awful and the service in... More

I dragged my girlfriend in for pint at least and as soon as we stepped inside we both felt encouraged to turn our visit into lunch. Great move! The bar area was really cute with a lovely worn-in, oldskool aesthetic. Bier Steins and tankards dangling overhead; desks with inkwells for our table. Pretty Christmas décor was already up and running,... More

A great pub restaurant that is a brilliant place to eat and drink. As a pub it is a place of great character with a brilliant atmosphere. As a restaurant it offers a menu of something a little different without being able provide something for everyone. We enjoyed our evening very much and we were well looked after by a... More

I have wanted to eat here for some time and, when I finally got there, I was not disappointed. Staff were efficient and friendly and the food was wonderful. A very relaxed atmosphere.

4 of us visited again and had a lovely evening meal. Very friendly and efficient staff, good food. The pub classics are the better items on the menu. Cottage pie and burger were much heartier portions than the comparatively undersized pork belly - which tasted lovely but lacked crunch. Good banter with the staff over the amount of custard (sorry... More

Visited here on a trip to Winchester. Greeted by a bar at the main entrance and the restaurant area is located at the rear. A quaint charm to the venue - as you'd expect from Winchester really. Tankards strewn all over the ceiling and walls, all the bar tables are old school desks befitting of the nearby college. Meal was... More

I've been to every pub in Winchester and this is my favourite. The bar is not over fancy and the beers always excellent. If you have to eat more than a packet of pork scratchings then the restaurant will meet all your desires. Staff are friendly as far as I recall and haven't made a complaint as yet!

Was just blow away how friendly and original the place was, food and drinks top notch🍀 Had the Ploughman plate and a few ales, similar to a plate of local (tapas) with several small components. Will be back😉
