Went for quick bite to eat and some real ale. Barman very knowledgeable on ales. Good variety of hand pumped ales. Had the recommended Cod and chips. Very good value for money. Am planning to come back again.

The pub’s setting is very old fashioned (which is a good setting) with reasonable price. They offered live music at 9pm. We ordered fish and chips. The portions were huge. However, the fish was tasteless. Still recommend the pub and we would visit it again...More

Genuinely old English pub in a pleasant area of the city. Welcoming, friendly staff and a nice pint too. Well worth seeking out for the history alone. Superb.

I would guess they are letting local folks know that it isn't just a tourist location. They were friendly to us and they likely realized that we were not locals.
