A good curry night out

Elegant decor, friendly service, beautifully prepared food which tasted delicious, washed down with beer and red wine. Railway lamb and mixed grill were spicy as expected. We were offered poppadoms, naan bread and a choice of rice to go with the main meal at extra cost, which we accepted. Clearly priced menu, a very reasonable £35 per head in total, x 4 of us. Will go to Royal Bengal again.

Excellent food, came here for a birthday meal party of 8 .The service was fantastic, flavours of all our dishes was outstanding.beautiful presentation. This is coming from someone who eats out regularly and often visits Indian restaurants We felt very welcomed , the ladies toilet was spotless. 100% will come back

Royal bengal, an amazing dining experience

We enjoyed a true culinary delight at the Royal Bengal. The service was first class, our waiter couldn’t have been more courteous and accommodating, with an excellent knowledge of the menu and beyond. But the service was just the beginning. The food was absolutely amazing. The chef, with whom we spoke at the end of our meal, clearly has a passion for the culinary arts and this passion is matched by his creative skills. I had the (chicken) Chennai as my main, a South Indian dish that was delicious, cooked to perfection and amazingly flavoursome. The accompanying pilau rice was some of the nicest I’ve ever tasted. All in all a fantastic dining experience in a restaurant I can’t recommend highly enough and one I will certainly be revisiting in the very near future.

Friday Night Disaster

I must say the food was delicious but everything else was abysmal. The menu had no prices on which was alarm bells straight away (surprise here’s the price of your Ruby..) . We asked for the bill but after 45 minutes we still didn’t get the bell so we went next door for a drink and then came back and bill still wasn’t ready. There was just 1 other table in! During the meal, we could hear the owner talking to the staff like they were rubbish and it really put us off our meal. It was a Friday night and we were the only people in there. To get to the toilets you have to climb up steep narrow dangerous stairs as there are no toilets on the ground floor. The food was delicious but the service was basically non existent. Can’t this place lasting long… Staff training clearly non existent and the owner blatantly doesn’t care.

Friends night out

Wow! What can i say. Me and my 2 friends turned up on the off chance after a couple of drinks and were made to feel welcome straight away. Nothing was to much bother. Inside the decor is great but the food truthfully was incredible. Between the 3 of us we selected a variety of dishes and each and every one of the dishes were fantastic and all with great flavour. Hands down the best curry house we have all been to. Without doubt we will be back soon

At last, high quality Indian food, expertly prepared.

I have worked and travelled extensively in India, both in Delhi and across the south. And for years in this country we have been subject to chicken or beef or vegetable, covered with the same old orange gloop or the red, or the brown. It is tedious and becoming very stale. It was therefore a delight to arrive at the Royal Bengal in Southsea. Madame had Paneer Tikka, and I had Chicken Tikka Shashlik. Both were cooked to perfection: Appropriate use of spices, high quality ingredients, immaculate flavours and textures. Clearly, care had been taken, and it was such a relief after years of mediocre “Indian” meals. The place was immaculate and the service attentive without being cloying Highly recommended!

Excellent food

I don’t understand the poor reviews on here as this was a very good meal. The food was some of the nicest I have had in a Indian restaurant for ages. We were looking at the menu outside when another couple walked out they said , if you are undecided just do it it’s fantastic food. That was good enough for us. Service was great and very helpful. Draught Kingfisher as well is always a bonus 👍🏻

Nan didn’t like it

Took my Nan and the whole place smelt like sewage. I told the waiter and he said someone had blocked the bog upstairs. The food was mediocre and I’ve had better served to me at Wetherspoons. Not at all worth the price which they hide on the menu!

NO BREASTFEEDING!

I honestly cannot believe I have to leave this kind of review but I was literally told I couldn’t breastfeed my child in the restaurant! I was told by the owner I would have to either do it outside on the street or in the toilet! Date night ruined. Never ever again.

Date night with a child involved; very unusual. We have never objected to breastfeeding in our restaurant. Our restaurant is family-friendly.

Having watched all the renovations taking place it was great to see it finally open. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. A lot of thought, care and attention has gone into this venue by the owners. The staff were courteous and polite. They have a fabulous downstairs bar area which would be ideal for private parties. We wish them well and will return

Wonderfully different experience

This is not your run of the mill curry house. A wonderfully different menu, excellent attentive host and fantastic chef. Would definitely recommend for those searching for a more refined night out. I will be a regular!

Food was absolutely amazing. Service was amazing. The restaurant was really quiet which was a shame because it was really lovely. If we stay nearby again then will definitely be going back!

Great indian Food
