Called in last night with family party of eight. Everyone had a different dish - all very good. Highly recommended.

Our friends had their birthday celebration at this pub. It was a large party of 30 and a basic menu was complied, with everyone pre ordering. Approx 20 of us were put into the conservatory and felt disconnected from celebratory couple, despite them booking many weeks in advance. The food was mediocre and dry but that was mainly due to... I really do not understand people undermining this restaurant. Around Lewes this is the best restaurant without a shadow of a doubt. If people want food as much as you can eat THIS IS NOT FOR YOU. If people want amazing food THIS IS FOR YOU. We had food that we find hard to find. Taste and cooked perfectly but... More

We live within 15 mins drive, so every 6 months or so, we try it again. Sadly, it never fails to disappoint. Today, the only redeeming feature was the lemon tart dessert. My elderly mum's Yorkshire was so dry it was hard and inedible, as was my fennel, and the broccoli was so undercooked I couldn't actually cut through the... More

We are always looking for a good country pub, and we are a fussy family to please, each having our own requirements, and I was pleasantly surprised that this venue pleased every single one of the family! It was cozy but not stuffy, staff were professional and efficient, food was fabulous, and the prices were not extortionate. We will definitely... More

This is a lovely pub, recommended to us by our good friend who lives in the area and is a chef himself. The location is a little remote so, as others have said, Sat Nav is your friend here. The pub was beautiful and the atmosphere warm and friendly. We went on a chilly Saturday evening and the fire was... More

We used to come here often and it was always a special occasion. Then a few years ago it started to drop in quality and after one really poor meal we stopped going altogether. After reading some positive reviews we decided to try it again for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant needs to improve dramatically in order to get... More

It is a pity that you did not think to comment on your starters at the time. Nobody cooks a risotto from scratch. Even if you go the the Michelin starred River Café and order a risotto it will be served to you 10-15 minutes after you order it. Risotto takes approximately 18 minutes to cook once the order is... We eat at the Jolly Sportsman at least twice a year - the menus are always inventive and the standard of food is very good. The service can be a little slow - so allow time - and it is somewhat " off the beaten track " ( SATNAV helps!) - but worth the effort.

I had heard good things about the food at the Jolly Sportsman and 1st impressions were good - nice setting, pretty garden, well decorated and the smells emanating from the kitchen made the mouth water! The service was friendly and efficient and the dishes were well prepared and the perfect size. So why just the 4 stars? The menu is... More

Great setting , good car park . Superb garden if you wish to dine outside on a sunny day. Very comfortable interior. Great menu enjoyed by all our family group of 5. Local ale and excellent choice of soft drinks too. Will definitely return, looking forward to eating by the log fire on a winters day too.

Thank Coastal7
