Visited today on a visit to Dorchester and was intrigued by the history. Step back in time when you enter the tea room and find old music playing, the waitresses dressed as traditional nippys and fashioned chairs and tables. We didn't eat but had teas and coffee. Very enjoyable and plenty to look at whilst sitting. Service was good and... More

Visited here for lunch with my husband. Cafe is in a beautiful, old building and has a lovely feel, wood panelling and chandeliers, however is very cold. Didn't take our coats off at all. Large room so clearly not easy to heat but I think being warmer would encourage people to return. Seemed to have run out of a lot... More

Found this by accident when we wanted a lunchtime snack. It is an amazing oak-panelled room with a superb oak fire surround and over mantle. It is just like a cafe in the 1930s. Apparently the room was used by Judge Jeffries for the 'Bloody Assizes' in the 1600s. So ... history as well. Food was simple but nice. Go... More

We ordered pasties. The pastry was tough to the point of being inedible with very little meat and served with stale lettuce. But the cakes looked nice Both M & F toilets had problems.

Just been here for lunch, thought it would make a achnage as haven't been her for quite a while - really wish we hadn't bothered. Steak & kidney pie - well almost! small square of pastry, most of which was so hard I couldn't cut it let alone eat it, three pieces of meat and no kidney. came with lumpy... More

Called in at random on a slightly overcast visit to Dorchester one Sunday whilst looking for somewhere for a quick bite to eat. The place was about half full and serviced by a single waitress who was apparently responsible for seating people, taking orders, bringing food, clearing tables and taking payment! To be fair, in my opinion she did a... More

We are relatively new to the Dorchester area and sought this tea shop out from trip advisor although we were willing to be impartial and make up our own minds. On a positive note the surroundings are quaint, there is lots of history surrounding the building and the waitresses were smart with uniforms from a by-gone age. Maybe it was... More

Everything from the music, the surroundings and the 'nippy' styled waitresses sets you up for food a la the 1940s. All very interesting. We were allowed to pick our own table by a helpful 'nippy' next to the window, with a view over Antelope Walk. We took the Cornish Pastie and the Brie and Bacon Panini, with a diet coke... More

We called in while holidaying in the area. A waitress quickly ordered us to a table, there were plenty of vacant ones! Had light snacks, soup, sandwiches and dessert. All very nice, soup could have been a little hotter. Customers following us also got the glum waitress directing them where they didn't want to go. Shame, odd that the menu... More

The panelled tearoom has quite an interesting atmosphere as it is like stepping back in time but everything is somehow a little jaded. We just ordered sandwiches which were perfectly ok but nothing special. Prices however are very reasonable. It was fine for a quick lunch stop but I wouldn't rush back. Nice for those who can remember the days... More
