A modern, relaxed bar and restaurant - perfect location on the river with a spacious terrace and heaters for chilly nights. The staff were very welcoming service was impeccable and the food was excellent. We were particularly impressed with the mussels and the pizzas.

Arrived just before 2:45pm. Collected menus and took a table. Staff members wondering around cleaning tables, no acknowledgement at all. Choose our meals and my lad went to the desk to choose from the drinks menu and place our order. He waited 3 or 4...minutes without service so returned to our table. I went to the desk and was immediately served by a gleeful woman who rudely advised the kitchen closed at 3pm. It was now 3:02pm. I asked why we hadn’t been informed of the closing time when we arrived. The staff members had clearly seen us choosing our meals and I believe blatantly ignoring us until the 3pm deadline had passed. She was rude and clearly gets a kick out of upsetting people. No apology at all. Unfortunately for them we are not tourists, ripe for the picking. We are local and will not be returning. This could’ve easily be avoided by simply explaining when we arrived. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Totnes, the food will be just as good and they will appreciate your business. Manners cost nothing. Steer clear of this one!More

Never mind all the instructions you have to digest upon arrival - and rudeness greet you if you don't - when you go to pay, you're told it's card payments only! If people like this don't realise just what will happen to their freedoms if...cash is withdrawn from society, then woe betide them and calcify their utter ignorance. As you may imagine, I won't be returning.More

We are local and have eaten in this restaurant for years and understanding the cost of living decided to take our french friends to what we thought the best restaurant in town. It was highly embarrassing to receive half a cling wrapped mackerel, frozen prawns...and a teaspoon of crab meat for our £17 sea food platter. Im really glad the children were pleased with their moules mariniere which is still as good. The staff were as always very lovely but the food was a complete let down.More

Coeliac and Dog friendly bistro with fantastic fish dishes and lovely outside space. Not too expensive but wonderful service. Highly recommended. They were so attentive and kind to our coeliac needs. Thank you.

For this Bistro I would give even less than one star if it was possible. On our family visit the food was old and had a foul smell. To make it worse the male waiter was rude and unapologetic for our complaints. He just shrugged...his shoulders and grinned. For the high prices they ask, this was too much to take. My family and I wont go there again and if you care for your health and purse, neither should you.More

We were able to wait for our friend to arrive, sitting overlooking the river right by the bridge at the bottom of the High Street. We chose to eat indoors, where the were a few tables, well spaced out. The menu choice gave the variety...we needed, and the food was very pleasant, generous portions. Service was very friendly.More

I would have loved to rate this place 5 stars, since the quality of the food was excellent and all the ladies working there were friendly and attentive, but our meal sadly was not filling at all. We had both a seafood plate and a...beer, paid over £ 45 and still went away hungry. That is the one and only reason I just give 4 stars. So if you are a rather small eater or do not mind paying a little more than usual and have a starter and maybe a desert too, this place is great and highly recommended for you.More

Hi Matt B, I am sorry for giving a bad review but I was really disappointed with your food. As I said the service was great, and the environment was great. You asked me what did I order? -prawn and crab salad starter -Grilled Sardines -Steamed Mussels -Olives - bread The food quality was indeed very bad. I was hoping to eat at a restaurant, but I eventually ate pub-quality food. This is fine, and I like eating in pubs, because I don't order seafood, and I also pay 8 pounds (not 47 for two people). In Plymouth we have a Japanese Restaurant (Yukisan), in which if you pay 47 pounds for 2, you will eat food that will remain in your head for ever. I was not expecting that from your restaurant, but certainly I was not expecting such disappointment. As I am a Chef myself, I will give you a few tips, of what went wrong: --prawn and crab salad starter = the prawns were the typical small Chinese boiled prawns that you get them from Tesco. The crab was smelly. Recommendation: you go to the fish monger, and you get fantastic fresh prawns, half price and way more tasty. Regarding the crab , if you keep it in your fridge more than 2 days, I am sorry , it was a but investment, through that away. Offer fresh crab! -Sardines were not crispy (from BBQ/griller) and were dehydrated. Both means the chef cooked them in low heat for long. As a Chef, I am telling you that it needs maximum heat for minimum time. -Mussels: my dear owner, the mussels were fresh, because they were actually alive (otherwise they would not open). So this great alive shell, how did they manage to destroy the easiest dish. Let me tell you the real recipe: garlic in hot olive oil for 45 seconds, you add half a glass of white wine, you add mussels, you cover them and cook for 7 minutes (or until all open), you add pepper/parsley and serve. Instead do you know what your Chef did? he boiled Onions , yes indeed, his recipe is boiling onions, then not steam but actually boil the mussels. Then it was a tasteless watery soup of onions and mussels. The mussel itself has very fade taste, which means it was boiled in water. The only reason why I spend my time to improve your restaurant that I will never visit again, is because if you were investing in a fantastic Chef, you would be packed non stop , and you would have seen only smiley faces. Do something, the restaurant by the river deserves good food. PS: please ask your chef to cook 10 mussels with his recipe , and 10 with the recipe above... best D
