Visited recently for tea with my husband. I had noticed on a previous visit whilst walking past, a sign which said black rock grill. It was always the plan to have a steak on a stone for tea and we did. It was superb, but...to be honest it was a struggle to stick to the plan. The menu was fabulous and seeing other people's food being carried out just confirmed to us we need to make this little gem of a pub a go to on a regular basis for tea. The staff were amazing, friendly and totally obliging. The quality of the food is amazing, everything is really affordable. Fantastic choice on the menu, something for everyone. An immaculately clean and comfortable pub situated in the heart of historic Totnes. We received a warm welcome on arrival and ordered drinks from a bar that offered a wide range of drinks including three local real ales. (THE Jail Ale was in excellent condition!)...The food menu offered a fabulous selection ranging from sandwiches to a choice of three roasts. A choice of daily specials completed the range. Food cooked to order was served promptly and piping hot and was delicious.More

Such a shame that this pub has such an atrocious person in charge.. No customer service skills, rude, obnoxious and definitely not adhering to licensing standards.. I will be reporting him to the local authorities. Avoid at all costs

Visiting Dartmoor we took a walk around Totnes and stumbled across this lovely pub . We ate there and were delighted at both the attentive service and the quality of the food . Would highly recommend this pub as the prices were reasonable and they...serve a fab roast all week!More

Mothers' Day in Totnes, everywhere full. We walked around looking for a good stop for Sunday Roast, and came past the King William IV. The Manager was delightful, and although 'fully booked' he made space for two, moved tables around. We ordered Lamb roast, and...after only a short wait, a piping hot and plentiful meal was served. What a delight - 'meat and six veg' - plates full and everything done to perfection. It has been a long time since I have had such a superb roast dinner 'just like mother makes'! Nothing was too much trouble, Staff excellent. I really cannot fault this pub in any way, and it is a pleasure to write a five star review.More

Had a walk in Totnes and decided to get lunch out . Very pleased we came across this pub with signs for a roast dinner outside, Lovely welcome from the barman directed over to a free table. We had 3 lamb and 1 turkey roast....The portion and standard of the roast was really great . All piping hot , generous veggies with gravy . Potatoes were crunchy . All for £10.95 each . Will be back .More
