Regular visitors to this lovely place, where not all parents are ruled by their children! Wonderful staff have time for everyone but be aware the cakes are irresistible.

Visited the cafe today with my friend and our children as I have been here before and it serves lovely food and is very clean, but unfortunately today left with a bitter taste. My little boy was playing with the sugar packets that are on the table, he threw some on the floor while I was drinking my cup of... More

Just opposite the park this is a great little cafe. Popped in there and warmed up with a coffee and some cake. The park was very accommodating for children and provided a box full of toys. Coffee was good, as was the cake.

Such a lovely wee place. The cakes all looked so amazing it was hard to choose! Coffee and hot chocolate awesome (went back a second time in one day as it was so good!). I've never seen such a clean and well kept cafe. Right opposite Pier St Park so the kids can play and the cafe has a fantastic... More

Was down the Hoe on a misty day looking for somewhere inside to have breakfast. Came across this cafe opposite the West Hoe playground. Lovely log fire going nice welcome and the Full English Breakfast @£4.95 was a delight. Delicious sausage superbly cooked egg and much more, not a giant plate full but the quality was excellent. Will be back... More

Wasn't planned but stopped in here for lunch, it was very nice but a little expensive for a panini and a coffee-£10.50. Friendly staff. Clean and freshly prepared food. If I wasn't on a diet I would have had a cake but it was probably a good idea I was because I would have struggled deciding which one to have... More

Many thanks for your lovely review of By the Park. We are so pleased that you enjoyed your visit with us. Just to clarify, our panini cost £4.90 and our coffees range from £1.90 - £2.60 and so would cost roughly £7.00. It seems that an error has been made which we apologise for and have tried to contact you... More

My daughter recommended this shop and we ordered from here. We rang the shop and then came to collect them. They were quick, great service and amazing panini's!

Second visit to the cafe. Reasonably priced coffee and the most delicious lemon drizzle cake. Really like it here, immaculately clean and pleasant, friendly service. Relaxing place to have a chat and something yummy.

Regularly come here to get panini's and they are so amazing! Also the carrot cake is to die for! Always feel very welcome and the cafe is set out so well. Very cozy. Love it!

Opened just before the August Bank Holiday in the large ground floor of a big old Victorian terraced house beside West Hoe Park and about two hundred metres from the sea. This is a clean simple modern family cafe with a couple of tables out front near the childrens play area and the servery and several wooden tables inside. There is already a Facebook support page and during the opening week it has been busy on wet and dry days. Easily justifies an entry. There has been a recent small surge in the large waterfront area involving independent small tea and home made fresh cake and snack businesses. Things are looking up.
