Totally hilarious fun on new year in this place. Good fun atmosphere. Live music was top notch and Hugo the dog is adorable!

Always plenty of chat and laughs but also enough time to have a quiet drink on your own, as a couple on a walk through Handbridge or in a group. Caters to all and lots going on through the week.

Very rare to find a basic proper pub these days, somewhere you can just have a drink and not feel pressured into having to buy food then vacate your table for the next lot of people waiting in the wings!! Nice little seating area's outside too!!

Finding a park is a challenge in itself here as all nearby parking is restricted. Entering the rather gloomy pub I was greeted not by the barman who looked old enough to be still at school. I had two pints and both times failed to get even a grunt out of him! The larger was fine and priced at £3.25.... More

This place has got the balance right. It has the feel of a pub to attract the real ale lovers, then it feels like an upmarket wine bar to attract the ladies. The staff were polite and efficient. It was a busy service for them but we didn't feel like an inconvenience, My wine glass had lipstick on and was... More

Friendly service, brilliant real ales, nice traditional decor. A few years ago it was redecorated in wine bar style, but has now, happily regained its traditional wood interior fittings. A good old fashioned local pub and well worth popping into if you are in the area.

Bar maid confirmed last night that they are no longer serving food. Apparently may start again in the future. Looked like an ok local boozer

The Red lion is a classic English pub. It serves real ale to a high standard, has a good menu with reasonable prices. The food is uncomplicated and cooked really well. If you are coming to Chester and want a safe pair of hands for a meal and a pint, this is an excellent pub to choose.
