We visited on very busy Christmas Saturday and pub packed. Beers mainly in good condition. Food generally good but some delay and some error. Staff working 100%. May have got 5 score in quieter conditions. Still recommend trying.

Decent selection of ales.....although I would like to see more traditional bitters rather than the abundance of "craft ales" that are currently found everywhere. We were a party of 6 and had a selection of tapas-style dishes. Went down a treat. All with a game...More

More for drinking than eating really but food pretty good too. It is a real ale pub with a large selection of different beers. Can get very busy and there are not many tables.

Popped in here for pre-dinner drinks (booked in at Oddfellows a couple of doors up). This is a great pub within the walls of Chester - run by the people behind Spitting Feathers brewery in Waverton just a couple of miles away. Just what we...More

Not easy to find as the entrance is up narrow steps, but well worth it. Very old building with friendly staff and good choice of food. The devilled kidneys were beautifully cooked and very spicy although you can ask for them toned down. The welsh...More

To be honest, conventional is not really their thing. Don't let that put you off though. You can have a Sunday Roast any Sunday you want. You can't always try and enjoy the great food and beer that is served here!
