I went here with a large group after a meeting. They served us quickly and no one was kept waiting for too long while others ate. There was a good choice of food, particularly for people with gluten sensitivity (as one of our party did, she thought she had died and gone to heaven). The starter platters and breads were... More

Saw this restaurant as I was driving through Cambridge to my hotel. Plenty of room for a table for 2 on Thursday evening. The Suet Pud special was something to die for as was the smoked mash potato. My wife had the Lamb which was equally delicious. Food, drink and Service were excellent, the staff couldn't have been more helpful.... More

Late Saturday lunch in April; very nice time. I had the duck special (fab leg croquettes) and lady friend had the sirloin stake (although her "rare" was a little blue, and mademoiselle is a French carnivore!). The chips were Outstanding-best triple cook in ages. The wine was also a star of the show; slightly odd "Langedoc only" wine list paid... More

I'm a big Cambs Cuisine fan but I must say this is my least favourite out of all the restaurants. I went for a friends birthday and felt like we were locked away on our own upstairs. The service was adequate and the steak was overpriced considering the T Bone was 70% bone and 3 of the parties steaks were... More

Quality food, service and setting. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Well worth the price. House red wine was delicious as was the coffee afterwards.

We have dined at this restaurant on a number of occasions and have always been delighted with the food, service and value for money, as well as listening to extracts from Blackadder in the toilets! We look forward to visiting again in the near future and hope that one of the excellent suet puddings is on the menu.

A great restaurant to visit if you enjoy traditional food and drink. There was a nice choice when we went for lunch: Steak pie, Suet pudding amongst the mains and sticky toffee pudding and rhubarb crumble amongst the desserts. One beer from the barrel, and plenty of choice in bottle.

A days shopping in Cambridge followed by a late sunday lunch at St Johns Chop House. Absolutely delicious and well worth the £15 per head. Nice environment, great service, will return.

Sunday lunch for a birthday. We've been here many times over several years and generally found it good. It was definitely not good on this occasion. Started well with a very friendly waitress who turned out to be the best part of the visit. The menu seems more limited than I remember. We had tasting platters for starters that were... More

You know how it is when you just want a good meal without all the fuss of a restaurant? Well this was one of those times. After a long afternoon drinking in the sights and sounds of Cambridge, we just wanted some good food before heading out. We hadn't booked but it was early evening the manager gave us a... More

Description
Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
