We book our table a week in advance via the internet. We arrived about 10 minutes prior to our reservation. Long story short, the reservation was not listed with the restaurant. As it turned out, they could comfortably seat us, so it really wasn't a big deal. The manger was rightfully concerned that an internet booking had not been booked... More

We were a large family group, with 3 small children, celebrating a 40th birthday. The service and food were excellent with plenty of understanding and patience shown towards the young children.

Parking good, loos clean, tables look attractive. Been a couple of times and both times the food has been mediocre at best. First meal was in December and a Xmas party was in. The service was therefore extremely slow, I thought that the kitchen was overwhelmed. But why have such a large menu, surely a menu of a few dishes... More

Popped in with the family for lunch here (my great-grandfather's old pub!) today and - not for the first time - met charming service in a comfortable and spacious environment and a good range of well-prepared food with sufficient vegan/veggie options to get by. Appalling muzak issuing from directly behind us was discreetly turned down by our thoughtful waitress, and... More

Had a lovely meal in the grouse and ale with a family group who were visiting us, the restaurant had a warm atmosphere and plenty to choose from on the menu! I unfortunately made the mistake of ordering the battered squid and then the fish and chips for a main which were a little too greasy together, however everyone else... More

Came here for a Family lunch on a Saturday when visiting toddler grandchildren. There was a warm friendly welcome, and whilst I got the impression that 1 elderly customer eating on his own might not have enjoyed the presence of the children, the rest of the clientele or staff didn't seem to be bothered. We had 2x Beer Battered Fish... More

Went to this lovely ex manor house with oodles of charm on Mothers Day and had a table for 5. The pub was friendly and welcoming. We had a traditional Sunday roast with starters and desserts. The food was well presented and the service was extremely good. The wine list was good and the whole dining experience represented excellent value... More

Description
With the relaxed ambiance of an English country pub, an elegant menu made from local produce and plenty of room to breathe (and park) the Grouse & Ale is the perfect venue for a social occasion or an informal meeting/function that needs more than just biscuits and coffee. The entire bar and restaurant is WIFI and there are plenty of niches to relax in with open fires to banish any winter chills, come the summer, take your drinks outside into our secluded courtyard. We hope that you will feel able to relax in comfortable surroundings, secure in the knowledge that the service, drinks and food will be perfect – whatever the occasion; Sunday lunch, a romantic dinner or a business session.Gastro Pub of the Year - 2010Quite simply, we’re very proud of our food. Our approach to designing the menu, reflects our ethos – do the simplest things brilliantly well. Our daily specials reflect a table d’hôte offering to supplement the a la carte menu along with an extensive, informal menu at the bar. Wherever possible, our menus are created from locally sourced produce and meats.
