One of the best places in Derbyshire for cocktails and food. Set in a stunning rural location, this pub offers top grade pub dining experience, this rustic little gem is well worth a visit !
Ive been up to this pub a couple of times now and last night was the first time i had a meal there. The food and service was top notch! I went in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised. If your looking for a...friendly vibrant place with great service, then i would highly recommend. I dont say that easily as i am a bit of a food snob, but this place definitely hit the spot.More
If you want to set your watches back 20 years to a time where food was fresh and non-packaged, where hospitality was about warm, welcoming and engaging 'real people,' the Red Lion is for you.
Very low key surroundings and nothing fancy, justa good honest...traditional English Pub.
Don't forget to try their Ciders...very passionate and knowledgeable on the subject!More
What an amazing time we had at The Red Lion last Saturday celebrating my husbands 60th and Sons 30th. The staff were fantastic keeping the drinks flowing, Gavins food was excellent 👌 as always. Great fun was had by all. Thank you so much for...allowing us to make some noise with our make-shift loud band....till the next time. Thank you Hannah Kevin, Sumi and Gavin. XMore
Visited with family, mixed ages. Lovely, warm welcome and cosy environment. The menu had a great selection of meat/fish and vegetarian food. The food was absolutely delicious! All six of us really enjoyed our meals and most had crème brûlée for desert which was equally...tasty. We’ve eaten at some excellent gastro pubs over the years and The Lion was definitely up there with the best!More
Whilst stopping locally we intended to try eating at different places, but having visited for an evening meal we returned on successive days. Landlord both friendly and professional. Lovely atmosphere. As for the food, absolutely lovely and restaurant quality. We will be returning later in...the year.More
Booked for a family meal (six of us, three generations) - received a warm welcome, some good cider (not the grandkids!) and some really tasty food. The staff were happy to adjust the menu for the grandchildren, who showed their appreciation by clearing their plates...with gusto! Highly recommended, but do book as seating is limited.More
12 of us ate here on Saturday night whilst we were on a friends birthday weekend away. Our meals were hot, freshly prepared and delicious and the owners were really accommodating allowing us to bring some balloons and banners, they even wore a mask of...the birthday girl at our request! There was lots of varieties of drinks, especially gin, and the service was quick and with a smile. We felt really welcomed will definitely visit again if ever in the area.More
Excellent stop on the halfway point of our walk on Saturday. Warm friendly atmosphere, excellent selection of non alcoholic beers as well. Definitely recommend!
We visited as a family today. What a little diamond! The menu was different to other places and everything made in house. We had a selection of hummus, polenta & haggis! Wow! A lot of love and care goes into the food and the mains...of duck & dauphinois & steak and ale pie were absolutely perfect. It’s been a long time since we have eaten at a small family run business that’s literally the best old school food. Our son was a little aggy and the landlady and landlord were brilliant, we didn’t feel arkward or unwanted like most places we visit. I’m so glad we found this place! Can’t wait to come back ! Thank you so much xxMore

I know they are not open Mon and Tues.
We left a provisional booking on the answerphone and it was fine. I think life just moves at a more sedate pace in Kniveton than in the city! Who has got it right :-)

We don't have a children's menu but do welcome well behaved children as we are a small intimate dining experience who welcome children at lunch but unfortunately not in the evening.
