HERBERT'S FINE ENGLISH TEAROOMS, Tissington

This has been a tea room on our radar for a while. Wished we’d visited sooner. Very welcoming, a lovely waitress and delicious food. My friend and I opted for the quiche and salad. She had the brie and bacon and I had the cheese...and sun dried tomato. Both were scrumptious, and the salad was fresh, varied and colourful. Loved the pomegranate seeds that were included. A side of chips, for quality control purposes , rounded off a very enjoyable lunch. Will definitely return and would highly recommend.More

Beautiful setting and welcoming staff

A lovely cafe in a beautiful setting with charming decor. Our waitress was welcoming and attentive, and the service was swift, despite it being quite busy. The coffee was excellent, and the food was lovely and fresh. We would definitely return. We didn’t take our...dog, but dogs were allowed inside and out.More

Terrible customer service.

Place looks lovely, however we arrived at 14:50 hours. The pleasant waitress sat us down and told us she’d be back in a min. She then went to serve another table which was fine. By the time she’s done that and processes their order it...was and I’m not lying 15:02. We went to order hot food and was told we couldn’t because it was after 3.. firstly, how is that my fault? Secondly even if it weren’t for the delay in the other group being served.. it was 2 minutes! This is quite frankly appalling. Terrible customer service on so many levels. We left and won’t be back.More

Little lunch stop

This tea room is an absolute must. I've had THE best ploughman's lunch here ever, it was so good we went back the very next day.

Amazing burgers!

We decided to book a table at Herbert’s for lunch as we were attending the wedding open day at Tissington Hall next door. We arrived almost an hour early for lunch but our table was already ready for us and it was no problem at...all. We received a very warm welcome and the food was fantastic. We both went for the burger with a side of chips and agreed it was one of the best burgers we’ve ever had. It was such good quality and really tasty. We’re already looking forward to our next visit to Herbert’s and Tissington.More

Lovely Sausage Bap

Lovely cake, but a bit uneasy.

Looked like a nice venue, but sat outside in the rare February sunshine. While waiting to be served, I observed what seemed like a new member of staff, albeit slightly older, undermined and really badly patronised by a (presumably) more experienced member. Really made me...uneasy. Not sure what was going on there, but I do hope that this gets read and someone does something about this. Don’t think it was bullying, but really bad management. I guess some people just aren’t very pleasant to work with! Was careful to expressly thank the lady that served us, just to make her supervisor(?) get the message that we were more than happy with her, three stars is an average of her service and the quality of the cake and the real unease that watching her supervisor in action gave me.More

An oasis of warmth on a freezing cold day

Came in at lunchtime for hot chocolate and home made cake. We were 5 miles into a walk with 3 to go and it was sub zero. It was busy but we got a table, served promptly and everyone was incredibly friendly. Very clean' toilets...were spotless. Lots of leaflets on the area if you need them and cheap walk guides too.More
