All reviews arctic char mashed potatoes pepper steak filet squeaky cheese whitefish mushroom soup main course local dishes food was amazing an appetizer cooked perfectly cozy restaurant next year ruka village min walk nice atmosphere
We booked online and walked the 10mins from Ruka. The restaurant had a quiet atmosphere and lovely Finnish decor. There was a small amount of choice in the menu and I could have chosen anything as they all sounded delicious. I went for a three...course set menu of whitefish starter. It was a cold starter but so flavoursome. It was delicious. Next was reindeer fillet with mash (best ever) root veg and two beautiful sauces. The meat was cooked perfectly and was so tender. For pud it was spruce infused creme brûlée. I think it was green but hard to tell in the light. It was lovely but not sure I could taste spruce. The service was very quick. My husband had the mushroom soup with reindeer. Amazing and the bear which we both thought was a lovely meat. Like a really tasty brisket but definitely not beef. It was expensive but it was fine dining in my option and unusual and delicious. I’d go again in a heartbeat.More
Riipinen keeps its quality in food , wines and service even during Corona. We visit this cozy restaurant every time we are in Ruka. The menus were excellent and big enough portions. Wine selection is suitable for game meals as well as fish dishes. The...photos show Tunturi menu outlook.More
Nice cozy restaurant with Nordic atmosphere. Based on the reviews our expectations was very high and we both chose Menu Lappi, but my wife wanted to change Finnish squeaky cheese dessert to chocolate cake and Thanks for the waitress that it was possible with the...same price. Lappi Menu is a good, but sautéed reindeer wasn’t so good, what I have eaten in other restaurants and the Finnish squeaky cheese dessert was so small, that it was only one bite..More
I had the "Kuusamo" 3 course menu. Everything was delicious and as a Fin the flavourpalette is for my liking. Not too fini dining, but no burger joint either. If you visit Ruka, i would recommend trying some nordic food.
Really don’t understand the rating on this restaurant, given the perfomance on 24.11, was it off season or what, but:
- 3 course menu, bottle of Amarone, only couple wines were sold by bottle. When bottle was opened the cork was dry as sand! Given...the price of the wine, I really don’t understand how they store their wines, also it was room temperature
- moose carpaccio for starter, this was ok, nice taste of tar sauce
- main course, arctic char, this was BAD, when the plate arrived to table I could smell the fish right there and it was not pleasant fresh fish sent, but smelled like way too old fish. I asked from the waitress the catch date of it, but she did not know it or did not bother to check it. Texture of the fish also told it was way too old fish to be served. Mashed potatoes was as basic at it could be, way too much salt on the other vegetables. Could not eat the whole food
- creme brule as dessert, burnt sugar left only bitter taste in my mouth for rest of the evening.
All in all, staff gave 30% discount on the food when we complained about the quality, but waitresses did not take us seriously, as I mentioned that ”thank god there is a pizza place next door”, she said ”Yes it is very close” and while she was walking away and waved her hand. chef did not bother to come to have a chat with us or make us new dishes to replace the challenged dishes.
I really can’t recommend this place given the reaction from the staff to our complaints or how they acted. And it was super empty evening so they were not in a hurry at all. Dear restaurant, step up your game!More
We were eating here in October on a day the very first snow fell down in Ruka. All tastes were carefully combined abd the foid was great; however, I definitely recommed an appetizer or even two before the main course if you are hungry. The...sizes are not so large, and the service might take a while...
All in all worth to go!More
