We stayed here last year and loved it, but after making a booking a few weeks before, we were rather surprised this time to arrive and find the place unlocked but deserted with the restaurant closed. A man working outside told us that B &...B would be no problem though. We walked up the narrow street, and found owner Patric standing on the doorstep of his nearby house talking to a friend. He recognised us straight away, warm handshakes all round. The room was small but clean and comfortable, and Patric really made an effort with breakfast, which was excellent as usual. He made us promise to phone him before our next visit to make sure everything was open, and we'll certainly be back there again on our next trip. Nobody's fault, but we were disappointed that the restaurant wasn't open the evening we stayed, Patric is an excellent cook. No English spoken here, which could be a problem for some.More

We've driven past Moncontour a few times, but never stopped to explore. A guidebook told us that it was "A village of character", a good description, but one of the real characters is Patric, who together with wife Florence runs the hotel. When we arrived,...the doors were open, but no-one around, just a workman mowing the grass. When he saw us he came over, not just a gardener and handyman, but also running the place, and as we discovered later, a very competent cook. Patric signed us in and showed us to a pleasant room that appeared newly built, very nicely too. While very attractive and interesting in a medieval way, the village doedn't have a great deal in the way of facilities, so we ate in La Poterie's restaurant, a beautifully appointed place. Patric, lawnmowing finished, was now working in the kitchen, and a very talented man he is there too. We were served an excellent meal made with fresh local ingredients. No English seems to be spoken, but Patric and staff are so friendly that this was never a problem, before leaving next day we had an interesting discussion on the fast approaching French elections, where he enlightened me on the chances of the various candidates. A good modern hotel with an excellent restaurant run by charming people, so highly recommended.More

We have visited this place three or four times and every visit has been most enjoyable. The staff are very pleasant and attentive and the food is well prepared and presented and the prices very reasonable. It takes a little finding but trust me its...well worth the effort.More
