If you are in the Pyrenees Orientales region in France (near Ceret, Thuir and Perpignan), and want an authentic and off-beat non-tourist local experience, this is the place. Chef is a real Catalan (M. Girones), and delivers wonderfully local dishes in Immense Quantities... careful, don't order too many . They are copious, tasty and properly served in a traditional small... More

One of our favorite spots on a six week trip through France. We went back there twice. The portions are enormous. There's an open fire in the kitchen. We could not eat everything. Shared a lot. I had the rabbit which was wonderful. Another person had a pig's head. I think I can dig up a pic of it hopefully.... More

We stayed in the next-door El Portal and ate twice at this lovely restaurant. The first meal was so good that we've decided to return the following evening. The Catalan meat balls were amazing, as were the pork's cheek and the rabbit in aioli sauce. The portions are really enormous, so fast a bit before that. The service is attentive... More

Good Catalan food in abundance!! Cosy restaurant in a superb old building adjoining the Mairie. Pleasant service.

One follows a narrow climbing winding road out of St Jean Pla de Corts to find this tiny hamlet of huddled ancient buildings that seem to prop each other up. The Mairie is in the middle and adjacent is the Hostelat, an ancient stone and brick building full of original rustic charm. The entrance leads into a low red brick... More

We stumbled on L'Hostalet de Vives when looking for somewhere to breakfast. Although technically they had stopped serving breakfast they happily accommodated our group of 8. The food just kept coming in huge quantities, everything from Catalan sausages to mini croissants! All of the food was delicious & well presented. The waiter was very friendly and helpful and keen to... More

The Hostalet de Vives is a long established restaurant with a lot of charm. It serves traditional Catalan food, with a menu that doesn't seem to have changed in twenty years. The portions are massive, the salads being particularly enormous. Sadly though the quality and originality are no more than average; and the wines are expensive.

Good food, but this is what happened to us. Order taken, menus collected, and then asked if we wanted mushrooms. When bill came, food for party of four came to €90, but mushrooms €76 on top! total €166. Price of mushrooms may have been on menu, but we didn't see it. Appeared to be ploy to inflate bill for what... More

We holiday annually in Ceret and this restaurant is close by. It's one of the highlights of our holiday to either lunch or dine here, sometimes more than once. The food is beautifully prepared, portions are huge and staff are friendly and efficient. The lunch menu in particular offers great value and of course the wine list is superb. My... More

The menu was limited, a choice of 2 dishes per course, 2 salads for the starter, 2 for the main, theoretically, though 1 was off, and 3 desserts. 22€. We chose 1of the salads and they said they could do us confit of duck for a main as we didn't fancy the blanquette of lamb. The salad was enormous, far... More
