We stayed at the campsite and had a couple of takeaways from here over the weekend. Saturday evening I had the steak and ale pie which was packed full of beef. The pastry was delicious, as was the gravy. My husband had the steak and...kidney pudding, which he quickly devoured. Then Sunday we had the roast beef Sunday dinner, the vegetables were beautifully cooked and tasty. It was all so delicious, and very reasonably priced. Definitely recommend it 👌More

My in laws were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary and under normal circumstances we would do that with a nice meal at the pub. Because of Covid we decided to treat them to a take out pub meal for two at home. Because it was...near to Christmas we ordered two turkey dinners, two puddings and cheese and biscuits. We were amazed by the care the pub had gone to, to make this Christmas lunch special. As well as collecting the meal in a lovely wrapped Christmas box, the meal contained lots of meat, a large selection of vegetables, pigs in blankets, roast and mashed potatoes and gravy. There was a good selection of cheese and generous helpings of pudding. There were lots of little extras too such as Christmas crackers, mince pies and chocolates. My in laws were delighted and we were so grateful to the Duke of York for putting this together for us. Thanks Bridget and Gary for providing this wonderful service.More

We love a run out for lunch on a Saturday and this was in my list of places to go. Great pub, felt really safe with covid restrictions in place. Lovely greeting from both the waitress and the lady who ran the restaurant. Could not...fault any of these. The food we found to be of good quality but quite expensive compared to other places. The chips I must say were great. My husband had the pie, it was £14.95 so expected something fab. It was a good tray pie with plenty of meat but rather expensive for the size if you look at the photograph. The selection of veg was good. I had the gammon at £12.95 I also ordered side of onion rings at £3 so the meal cost me £15.95.Plenty to eat but the gammon was dry.More

We have the most loving and well behaved friendliest family Dog and we was Just told we are not allowed to book because they do not accept Staffies. The rule should be towards the dog owner (defined by the owner being a fully responsible, safe...and considerate dog owner) and not the dog!More

Thanks for your comment - however the request to bring your Dog related to a stay on our Campsite and not a table in the Pub. Some breeds of dogs are not accepted on many campsites and unfortunately Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of them....More

Popped into this charming Pub on our way home from holiday. We were were welcomed by a really lovely lady (think may have been the Landlady) who seated us and took our order. We we had the Chef's Special which was wild bore sausages in...a very large yorkshire pudding, with veg, it was huge and really good. The Menu was varied and also had a snack option. All the Covid requirements were in place which made us feel comfortable and we really enjoyed our visit in a beautiful location. Highly recommend and will be returning when we are in the area again. Thank You.More

I think we must have visited on an evening when covid regulations had overwhelmed the manager of the Duke of York. There were only half a dozen diners at the time we booked but the young staff, although eager to help, where clearly very new...to the job to the point of not knowing anything about drinks or the menu. I received a half of stout to be told it was definitely the cider I ordered. Other tables were having similar issues. I felt sorry for them as they clearly wanted to do a good job but had had no training at all. One other table left before ordering as they were told, quit rudely, that they had to order food and drink together. I'm sure this was just a bad night; others seem to love it here. The food was reasonably priced and ok.More

The wife and I were staying at a local campsite and decided to eat here one evening. We rang them and hooked a table in the bar. Our dog was welcome and the service was excellent. The covid precautions were very good and not over...the top. A fantastic pint of ale. Ordered the garlic mushrooms to start. Best I have ever had. Then the fish of the day (haddock) with chips and mushy peas. I could not believe the portion size for the price. (£13) In fact I could not eat it all. Well worth a visit. Also has a lovely beer garden and a campsite.More
