Seemed nice enough when we were outside viewing the menu and after walking for miles debating on where to go in order to not get ripped off, we settled for here. Staff seemed nice enough but a bit miserable and the man out the front was a bit pushy and I wish we'd followed our gut instinct then and not... More

Very nice center Venice trattoria with tasty pizza & red vine. So good place to sit near the window and looking to the street.

We arrived for lunch, were eventually sat down, and after waiting at least 15 minutes our order was taken. As we sat down we noticed one table giving their order. After our order was taken two other table groups arrived and had their orders taken. We waited, and waited... In the meantime the table who ordered when we arrived received... More

We just come back from meal, just me and my wife, food ok but what a rip off. They charged us £6 CITY TAX! £3 each! And 12.5% service charge, spaghetti bolognase and spinach cannelloni with the worst wine ever 11.5% and like vinegar cost £52.50, wine was £19.50 alone, queried the bill and attitude of waitress was terrible, slimey... Got robbed by them. Let my tourist guard down and the waiter suggested that he will get me authentic Venetian sea food and mistake was I didn't ask the price. Though the food was good I was charged 235 Euro for 4 people. Mind you this is no 5star restaurant roadside food place. The service fee was 25 Euro. This... More

My family and I were looking for a place within our walking distance to eat. It was getting late and places were closing. We were able to find this place by happenstance and thought we'd give it a try. We actually enjoyed it so much the first night that part of the party went a second night, which may have... More

Within our stay in Venice we visited Al Poggio two times and in both cases we were fully satisfied. Different dinners from fish, pizzas, pastas etc did not give any reason to complain. Friendly stuff and wide menu full of good meals are a reason why to make stop here again.

They were nice but they forgot our food and threatened another customer they would call the cops on him if he didn't pay with the correct form they wanted (i.e. In card only or cash only). That's a bit to dramatic for us.

Despite hearing that pizza in Venice is the worst in Italy, we decided to give it a go and were pleasantly surprised, actually our capriciosa was quite good. House wine was decent as well (red variety). Only downside is that apart from coperto, they impose service charge of 12 % and these make food expensive at the end. All in... More

Risoto with seafood was extremely amazing! Try it! :-) my girlfriend ordered the spaghetti pomodoro and she found it tasteless.. They charged us for the bread! The cards menu informs you for this charge!

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
