Post-Covid it's getting harder and harder to find one of those upstanding establishments in rural Irish towns that provide a daily-changing, sensibly priced lunch menu. The Hunters Rest is showing that it can still be done! The staff combined friendliness with efficiency, from the moment they checked vaccination certifiactes, to taking the order promptly, and ensuring the food arrived promptly and piping hot. On the day I went there was a choice of two starters, four main courses, and three desserts. Everything was as you would expect - and the portions were generous indeed. It was market day and clearly a good number of people in town that day knew to head here for a good lunch. I'll be following their lead with a repeat visit soon!

Very pleasant,service a bit slow

Was here with my 2 sons for dinner on 13th August. Very efficient Covid systems in place. Staff were very nice but seemed very busy(in fairness, it was 6pm on Friday). Food was very nice, but service was slow...I ordered a started which arrived after 20 minutes, lads only had main course which took an hour to arrive. Place was busy, but was very difficult to attract staff attention. That being said, it was a nice meal at a reasonable price and I'd go back.

Quite good really!!

We chose this restaurant slightly reluctantly given some of the recent reviews. However the place was quite busy, on a Thursday night. The service was quick, the food was quite good and we left feeling reasonably happy.

Staff were completely disorganised or not bothered. Place was quiet enough when we first arrived but it still took forever to get our orders taken, eventually had to ask could someone to come over, only to be barely acknowledged by a unhappy look. Food was terrible. I am not fussy at all but there are no words for how awful the food was. The curry sauce had literally no flavour and the fried rice was nothing like any fried rice I ever had. I finished the sauce but I absolutely could not stomach the rice. I regret not going to Supermacs. It was such a waste of money.

Played a blinder during Indie23

We were at Indie23 and asked at the festival where they recommended us to go for a "Mammy dinner" and this was the suggestion . You need to keep your strength up at a festival and there's only so much fast food I can tolerate. So on the Saturday Dave had the t-bone steak and chips, I had the roast beef dinner followed by a lemon tart. Everything was delicious. Next day, I had the sea bream special and Dave had the roast lamb dinner. I also had a trifle. Washed down with a delicious bottle of white wine.Too late I discovered that there was another board with çhef's specials, but we will just have to come back again. The staff were superb,chatty,engaged although they were obviously exhausted from work and festival attendance,but they kept going,fair play. Three chefs in the kitchen kept the food going,changing menus as food ran out.

Very poor food

Had dinner here. Very quiet and can see why. Food not good. The dish of cold chips which had clearly being lying there for a while was placed on the plate with the chicken kiev swimming in garlic butter. What a mess and so unhygienic. Mash was so lumpy couldn't eat. Veg was not peeled and was tasteless. Very poor and very expensive for the quality. Maybe have a less extensive menu and get the basics right.

Bad food Experience

Very very disappointed as it was always an excellent place to eat out. Poor standard of food we got. Gravy was so thick wouldn't pour out of gravy boat. Mashed carrots were almost black. Pineapple fritter was soggy. Couldn't eat it. My partner got the chicken stir-fry and it was chicken and veg in a bowl topped with a bottle of sweet Chili sauce. He couldn't eat it either. Will be giving this a miss I think in future

Awful

Can honestly say I will never step one foot in this place again. Left standing around for over 20 minutes waiting on our prebooked table with no Interaction from any staff, man behind bar was so ignorant had a face that would turn you off your food, mumbled when I asked about our table and walked away, how he works there is beyond me. Staff looked so unhappy, people sitting at tables waiting to be served looked fed up, badly organised total mess 😑 glad we walked out.

Staff member very rude. Very disappointed

Had a table booked for 4 adults at 6pm but on arrival we were greeted by a very rude barman who left us standing for 15mins without any interaction about our booking. People were sitting at tables waiting to be served. A very poor ran organisation with no customer service. Won't be back.

Best Seafood Chowder EVER!

This wonderful pub was recommended to us locally - so pleased we acted on this tip. Pub was quite busy but lots of room for diners. Served food til 9pm which was a godsend. Ordered the seafood chowder as a main - o m g !! Best I have tasted EVER. No starter needed if you get this as a main - a decent portion. Dad ordered sirloin steak (couldn't finish it as was huge) & my sister had hot beef sarnie (again she couldn't finish). Service was excellent, lovely atmosphere. Good prices & staff helpful & friendly. Definitely recommend.

Good main courses.

Four of us had dinner here last week. The service is excellent. I had a mini-grill which was actually very substantial and very good! I had the banoffee pie for dessert which was very poor and not at all what a banoffee should be. Good atmosphere and the toilets were clean.

Dinning after Post Covid

The service was good and the staff was very friendly. Our overall experience was nice for a basic restaurant. Our only criticism was the size of the portions for the price which was a pity. Will probably go back however not after a long walk when you hungry.

Always good food

The hunters rest is probably one of the best restaurants in Cork. It is so reliable the food is always good. You will never get a bad meal here. I visit quite often. The staff are great and really friendly. It is so reasonabily priced. The Sunday lunch is fantastic. Really good for communions or conformations. The atmosphere is always great. There is a nice little bar and outside dining area

Great value, never disappointed

Three meals here this holiday. Always busy - tells its own story! Very popular with locals and visitors. Friendly, sometimes a short wait but staff very helpful and accommodating. Wide ranging menu plus daily specials, good value. Service is excellent food and drinks arrive swiftly and with a smile.

Dropped in on the way home from Fota wildlife Park. A huge effort made to comply with covid regulations which was very reassuring.. .. Lovely food, excellent service, so glad we stumbled upon the hunters rest.
