Great food, not so great practices

Travelling to see family, great to find a local restaurant supporting the local brewery, we did enjoy our meal, the kids meal especially surpassed the usual offerings, however were disappointed to find when billed that we had been charged for two bottles of water, these were refillable type glass bottles we did not order but did drink assuming that they were tap and therefore free. I have encountered this with bread baskets before but not water, utter shame as we love local businesses trying to break the mould and the food was without doubt very good. Sadly this did reflect on our tip so for your consideration.

Thank you for the review and glad to see you enjoyed our food. I am responding as i am perplexed at the fact you say you were charged for tap water. We have never charged for any tap water and even have no way of charging for it on the till. Perhaps if your table had minerals or mineral water the receipt would of said splits which is a mineral like a coke etc. Maybe you might contact me directly to try and clear this up as i dont want this confusion to cloud your judgement of our Restaurant. Excellent Food Delivery

Huge thanks to John and all the staff during these difficult times for providing a delivery service. We are around 5km outside the town and received a fantastic, well priced meal for 4. All food was delicious, cooked perfectly and delivered at a specified time. Thanks again 👍👍👍.

it is one of our favourite places to eat out. The staff are genuinely very nice and will do anything to accommodate the customers. The food is superb. We have not had a meal to complain about and we have visited the Market Place on many many occasions and brought visiting family from England to eat there. Keep up the good work

Poor attitude

We had hoped to have a coffee and dessert in Market place this evening. Had eaten there several times a number of years ago and had liked it. It was 5pm and the restaurant was empty . Yet, we were told if we wanted coffee, or anything costing less than €15, we would have to eat it outside! There were 3 staff members present and no other customers. It was bitterly cold at the time so we took our business to another establishment in the town where we received a warm welcome and very tasty food. I have eaten in many restaurants, in all parts of our country, and I have never experienced this bizarre outcome, heretofore.

Im sorry to hear you did not enjoy your experience in Market Place. I have since looked into this incident. Unfortunately the evening in question we were fully booked from 5.30pm onwards and could not provide you with an indoor table as they were all booked. Just to clarify you only asked for coffee and as we are a restaurant we have a food requirment policy. The table you were offered outside was right underneath a heater and well sheltered. If there has been any misunderstanding that is unfortunate and hope to see you here again.

Good food but terrible customer service

I have eaten regularly at this restaurant and always had good food but my last 2 experiences have completely soured my opinion of them. Having brought numerous groups of family and friends here I brought a group in December 2021 and we had a lovely meal but were imposed on to leave after 2 hours despite the place being empty. Actually told us they were very busy when there was only 2 tables full! Obviously just wanted to take a an afternoon break. This was middle of the day! Fast forward to today and I call to reserve a table for St Patricks Day which is my birthday and get told that they're not taking reservations because they don't know how busy they're going to be!! You're a restaurant not a bar!! What does it matter how busy you're going to be if someone wants to make to make a booking? Can't ever be bothered going back again now. Have easily spend thousands here over the years in group bookings. It will be easy to lose local business with this latest attitude.

Hi Paula. I am happy to hear you have enjoyed our food numerous times. I am surprised however with your negative review. We have been operating a sitting time policy of 1 hour 45 minutes for quite some time now which is common practice in the Restaurant business. Perhaps when you were in previously you said the place was not busy at that time however we would of had other tables booked after your table hense the time slot allocation. As regards St Patricks Day. It has been our policy for many years that we do not take bookings on St Patricks Day. This is due to a large volume of people in the town and makes it easier to accommodate as many customers as possible by working a Walk In Only policy. We do appreciate your past business and hope to see you sometime soon.

We visited last Saturday evening. Delighted with the service and food. The daily/monthly specials on food and wine give you a number of options to enjoy and in this environment this restaurant offers great value for money and friendly, good service. We will be back

Pleasantly surprised

I have enjoyed my meal in the market place ,located in Mitchelstown. The staff where very nice although there where only two they worked efficiently whilst also taking the time for small talk . FOOD WAS EXPENSIVE. The chicken wings where average but nothing special ,but would get them again . I liked the flavour of the wings , unfortunately I thought they where not fresh . It came with Luke warm water with a lemon which I thought it was a nice touch . They where presented in an elegant way ,but there where only 5 and in my opinion for €8:50 that’s steep . I got the chocolate fudge cake also , it was to die for the chocolate as well as the luscious vanilla ice cream really complemented the chocolate. Would defo recommended I had a coke so nothing exiting but they had a wide range of cocktails and local beers . I thought the manager was a little rude (didn’t really acknowledge us or say hello even though was walking past etc ) However there was a girl there who was friendly and attentive which was great to see . I would recommend this restaurant.

Nice staff but poor food and overpriced

The setting is nice and staff are friendly however I found the quality of the food quite poor and the desserts highly overpriced. All desserts were €9.50 for quite a small portion. Overall I wasn't satisfied with the experience for what we paid.

Friendly staff, delicious food!

Visited this restaurant during a trip with my 2 sons. Service extremely friendly and efficient, waiter was great at recommending beers and desserts! I had tiger prawns with Thai curry sauce and ratatouille ( which sounds weird,but tasted fantastic) followed by a beautiful steak and Bounty ice cream cake. Lovely clean restaurant, and as I said,service was fantastic. Would definitely come again. 5/5!!

Tasty food and friendly staff

Very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere. Vegetarian and beef lasagne both very tasty and chips were delicious skin on, crispy, not soggy or greasy at all. Reasonable prices. Great little stop off. Chef clearly takes care of what he is putting out. Only slight let down was the menu online said it came with a salad and chips but no salad came out. Lovely food would recommend

Lovely evening

Really enjoyed a fantastic meal here lovely little restaurant with a bar the duck and beef was delicious. As was the desserts. Everything was perfectly cooked and presented. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Will definitely call more often highly recommend the caramel dessert thingy

Best food ever

With covid 19 restaurants need to be pre booked. I rang ahead booked ahead. Staff so pleasant and helpful. 4 kids 2 adults best duck and desserts ever according to the kids. Prices were so reasonable for quality of food. Definitely return

The best local restaurant

This place has become our go too favorite local restaurant. I eat here with friends & family. We’ve never had a bad experience. Both adults & kids look forward to our visits immensely. Booking is essential at the moment. These guys are great hosts.

Had and amazing steak, food was really really good but to top it all this establishment know their wines and we had a magnificent bottle of French wine with our meal. Reasonably priced and great service.
