Disappointing to say the least, standard of the food was poor. I had fish which was dry and tasteless, the same can be said for my wife's chicken dish. Will not be returning.

Lovely wineyard, with a big restaurant. Which unfortunately was fully booked. Luckily they had a cozy backyard with a few tables. So we made the most of it and had a few of their lovely platters. And since we were on our honeymoon we had some of their lovely sparkling to celebrate. We were supposed to bike around to the... More

Location and ambiance is excellent. The food is great for fine dining and enjoyment. The atmosphere just finishes the meal beautifully. Great rosé.

Always ask why are they closed for dinner because this is one of the finer restaurants in Hawkes Bay. Great news, it's open for dinner.

We enjoyed a great lunch, taking in three courses, one warm afternoon in the Black Barn Bistro outside courtyard. Service was great and the food quality was excellent.

We arrived hoping for a table for lunch - way busier than I expected and despite apparently empty tables (kept in case diners outside have to move in) we could not be seated until 2.30. Finally seated and menu looked gorgeous - but mains a bit daunting for lunch. We had sourdough bread and entrees. Bread and oil - amazing.... More

We were on the standard time tour buying, and remembered this place from 10 years ago and decided to give it another go since we had good memories. We ate lunch outside under the grape vines. Food was excellent, and two glasses of their rosé went quickly. Highly recommended and obviously very popular.

Black Barn Bistro is always first on our list for a lunch outing each time we visit the Hawkes Bay. Once again it delivered a first class experience for us this week. The outdoor dining area is shaded naturally by vines on a hot day. The food was excellent in both conception and execution. The seafood and vegetable dishes were... More

We arrived at lunch having spent the day in town on a cruise ship. The place was empty so we went to sit down only to be told they were fully booked so we would have to sit out the front and could only order off the snack menu. Whilst we enjoyed the very small selection we went back inside... More

This is the best restaurant in Australasian, potentially the whole world. Ok we have not been to all of them but we have been to many excellent restaurants around the world and this one is second to none. No matter what i order and when we go, in the last six years we visited it was fantastic every single time,... More

Open for lunches and Friday evenings for dinner, Black Barn Bistro is the perfect place to spend an hour or two absorbing the atmosphere of Wine Country. It is in the heart of the vineyard surrounded by vines and a table on the large generous veranda lets you look right out across the region. In warmer weather a courtyard covered by a canopy of grapes is also a perfect place to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine. The restaurant menu is light, fresh and delicious. There is an emphasis on freshly grown Hawkes Bay produce, the selection changes with the seasons. The bistro is available for private functions, evening and during the day, it is also the perfect venue for a very limited number of weddings, for bookings or enquiries please give us a call.
