You have their home made salami and baloney sandwich with yellow mustard for the experience of eating a sandwich that has been made the same for almost 75 years. The ambience, signs and pictures of the wall tell the story. There will never be another place like this. Not gentrified. The faces , the generations may change but the characters are... More

If anyone is expecting a gourmet meal, go somewhere else. This is a fantastic trip back through time. Even if their famous "Special" baloney and Salami sandwhich were terrible, which it is not (actually quite good) and combined with an egg cream, it brings you back to a simpler time, or for those younger folks, gives you an introduction to... I've been coming here since I was a kid. Nothing has change apart for price. Really good authentic Montreal food. A must when in Montreal. Eating a special with cheese should be consider a crime.

I have been coming here for yours and recently brought my teenage daughter who exclaimed that this was the best sandwich she had ever had. While best is subjective there is no denying the Wilensky Special is an a class by itself. Worth the detour to enjoy the trip back in time. Don't forget the Soda to go with your... More

Born and raised in Montreal and never tried Wilensky. My husband decided we stop there for lunch and see what I think of this place. First off the place looks like its from 1932 lol. I love that old, antique, original look. This place is a gold mind, always full. So we each had a famous sandwich and hubby had... More

People are strange. They must get a kick out of going to this place thinking that they are doing something nostalgically unique. Pay 5 something for a wee round bread with some kind of concoction meat in it. Was it good, are you kidding me? And they refused to even cut in in half. It was against the rules. I'll... More

Sitting at the long bar with a great sandwich and range of flavours of soda to choose from. Great place for a quick lunch. Have the special, it's so good.

It is a small counter that makes a very good grilled beef salami and beef bologna sandwiches with mustard on a kaiser roll, pressed flat from the grill, with some pickles. Original, Nothing too fancy but it has been there since 1932!

This deceptively simple sandwich is a perfect balance of flavours, textures and aromas in an environment that is as classic as the dish. Pickles: delicious. Soda: tasty, but not cold. Would eat this every day if I could.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
