Dropped in for a quick dinner at Alexandre after taking in a baseball game at the Big O. Although we came without having a prior reservation, they were able to seat us in the bistro section out front. Alexandre is a true French bistro in every sense of the word, including for better or worse, the slightly condescending Parisian style... More

I visited Alexandre many times 20 yrs. ago and 10 yrs. ago but hadn't been since. I was with my food group and that was a place someone suggested, so I was eager to go back. I remember the steaks as being wonderful. The resto had a special on this time, a very reasonable price for starter, main, coffee. I... More

A real brasserie parisienne, with the same food, the same menu, but although the same lack of smiles and the efficiency of the service that tends to be more eagerness than real efficiency. The food is ok, but when looking at the size of the menu and all the choices, I'm wondering if everything is fresh ... Not sure ...... More

Once in the restaurant you feel like in France. The ambiance, the service, the menu, the wine make you feeling in France. The meal was good and the service too.

Old french brasserie in downtown Montreal. All dishes were excellent, tasty and cooked to perfection. The glasses of Californian Chandon or of French Cotes du Rhone were perfect, both at right temperature too. Bottles of wine though were a bit too pricey to my taste. But clearly a place for celebration a few times a year in French atmosphere and... More

Hello, Thank you for the good review! I'm glad you enjoyed our Valentine's special. We literally put all our love in it ;). As some of our wines are from Europe and especially France, they are quite pricey for the quality and the importation cost, but I'm happy to liked them! Great place - we were treated nicely and served quickly so that we could make it to the hockey game on time. Kid friendly and terrific service. 3 of us had the lobster special which was delicious and reasonably priced. Highly recommend for classic french Bistro in the downtown core.

We happened across this restaurant by mistake. As we entered there was a waft of cigar smoke as there is a smoking room upstairs. The restaurant was quite quiet for a Saturday night. Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
