My friends and I were visiting last weekend, and this was our first meal in town. The bar has nice decor and a nice atmosphere. Not crowded either, which was great for our group of 7 people (on a Friday night). There was a great drink selection - my beer-loving friends enjoyed it. A couple friends ordered mussels and really... More

The mussels and fries were excellent! I had the Brassiere Saint-Denis and they were great! I found the broth very tasty and the fries were crispy good. The dipping sauce (a mayo base) was also really good. I like the ambiance of the place, high ceilings, big windows had a nice feel on a snowy winter night. The staff was... More

Ended up here by accident and Merry Christmas to my mouth. They have La Chouffe, the greatest beer ever. I took the Thérèse Poutine. I am what you would call a poutine expert and this was just AMAZING. My favourite new mistake, will absolutely be back on my next trip to MTL.

This is a lively bar complete with tv screens in every direction, tonight showcasing local ice hockey. Order the all you can eat bucket of muscles- tasty. Various flavours on offer. Lovely salmon tartar and salad. Burgers were good. Special tonight- $8 for 1L stein of beer with every main meal. Wouldn't recommend the nachos- no tomatoes or guacamole. Friendly... More

We stopped for a late lunch, the Kwak Poutine was excellent, some of the best Poutine I have had. The French onion soup infused with Guinness was also quite good. I was a bit disappointed they were out of some of the Belgian beer on the menu. The service was professional and friendly.

My friend and I went there on Thursday around 6pm for a 5 à 7. The place was empty except for a guy at the bar and a couple seated in a banquette. We ordered onion rings, fried calamari, nachos with duck sausage and beers with orange slices. Got the beers with lime slices; waitress said oops barman made a... More

Run into this close to midnight when most of other places were closed. Huge beer menu, plus a promo of 1l of certain beer for $6 on Wednesdays. Nice atmosphere. Reasonable prices. Tried bison burger and tartar steak - both very good. Don't forget to add chipotle sause to your fries.

I have been here many times in the past (last time in 2013 or 2014). The place used to have a very big variety of imported beers and the food used to be amazing. The burgers were definitely worth it, with a variety of topings. So I was eager to go back and have one of their burgers again. To... More

We called in on a Thursday evening and it was fairly quiet. The place is lovely inside, really interesting and a good vibe to the place. Decent choice of beers, cold and tasty. The food menu is fairly limited in size, but we ordered the grilled sausages ant they duly arrived, cooked to perfection and tasty. Good service. Smart toilet... More

Brasserie St-Denis is just a great place to sample the beers of the world and relax with friends, maybe watching hockey or extreme sports or just chatting in one of the more private booths. The place is known for mussels, but we sampled other great dishes: calamari with chipotle sauce (great!), cod croquettes with curry sauce (great!), gravlax and potato... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
