And it was perfect! The restaurant accommodated our group of 60 people and closed the restaurant for our group (plus one group in the smaller back room). We had a raw bar that the guests RAVED about. One guest even facebooked that there "were oysters as far as the eye could see!" The rest of the meal was served cocktail... More

Starters were ok and the tacos were bland. The guacamole was minuscule and lacked flavour. The tortilla chips were greasy. The tartare was good but heavy handed on the chilli side. The ceviche was interesting but lacked flavour. The octopus was better but a little over cooked. The tacos were all very disappointing - dry, bland and some were both.... More

We stopped just for a snack. The food was excellent, the service was good and the place had a nice feel. It is fun to see people cook at the bar.

We walked in with our 8 yo and though it was mostly a hip young singles crowd--just like the Airbnb host who recommended it--we got a great spot and were treated to a fabulous meal. Great margaritas, tacos and guacamole, an incomparable tostada. And, despite a small language barrier, they were able to modify a few things for our kid.... More

First time at Mais and definitely not the last. Amazing service! the waiter let us taste the smoked Toquilla to see if I would like it in my Cocktail! He actually brought me some in a small glass! the guacamole and tortilla chip were to die for. The cheese filled squash was OMG! and the tortillas so yum! can't wait... More

Food is alright, good appetizers/ ok tacos, but service was awful (telling us when we arrived that we needed to leave at 9 even though they mentionned nothing when we made the reservation and the restaurant was empty..)

Our group showed up at 830 on saturday night with no reservation. Being in the service industry we knew we were taking a chance. However with only one table available and it was booked for an hour from the time we arrived as we were informed. Thats was ok as we were only looking for drinks and a few share... More

Do not go to Mais. Although food is good, service is very long. We reserved seats at 7. we ordered: nachos, 3 ceviches, 9 tacos. It took them an hour to get our first meals. Then we wanted to get desert. They gave us the deserts card but never came back to take our orders. 35 minutes later: the waitress,... More

My boyfriend and I stopped into this place while walking along Mile End for dinner - we arrived right at 5PM when they opened, so we had the pick of seating. Extremely friendly staff and the food came quickly - but yes we were the only other people there at the time! Perks: - delish street taco options, I recommend... More

I went to visit the place to make a reservation for my wife Birthday anniversary. I spoke with Gil one of the owner. He told me I could get the front table for 8 persons. If we were more then we should take another table. Looking at the drinks selection I ask if it was possible to get a pitcher... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
