Toro Rosso is nice place to dine in the Village, serving up good food at reasonable prices. They have a liquor license, whereas most restaurants in that area are BYOB. We went for dinner twice and found the bavette bordelaise very good. I don't understand their use of cheap vegetable oil instead of EVOO in the salad vinaigrette, but that... More

When I first started going to Montreal many years ago, I never even looked at Toro Rosso because there was another Italian restaurant on the same street and I just happened to go there first and liked it. I found out later that I must have hit that place on good nights, because apparently the food was not consistent. In... More

I'd enjoyed for lunch at the Botanic Gardens restaurant an amazing salad plate heaped high and generously with five different fresh salads. All for $9. Wasn't terribly famished at dinner time so thought that a Caesar salad would suit me. Never again will I eat at Toro Rosso. Admittedly the salad came with a glass of house wine, and it... More

We had dinner here on a recent trip and it was wonderful. The ambiance is perfect and the outdoor seating in summer is even better. The food was exceptional and service was a little slow at first. Good variety on the menu and I will definitely go back next time I'm in town

Had just a quick dinner, as a couple, when on a recent trip to Montreal. The patio seating is wonderful in the summer and the restaurant is right on Saint Catherine street. The wine choices are reasonably priced with house wine prices at about $20 per 1/2 liter of very decent stuff. I don’t like to give a poor review... More

We have eaten here several times before but last night was not great! The restaurant was busy but several empty tables and we were seated next to the kitchen and cash register and next to a table with 5 adults and about 6 children who were out of control but friends of the owner/maître 'd. Service was slow and forgetful... More

Being from NY, I did not know what to expect in the way of pasta, but was pleasantly surprised, pasta was good and tomato salad was excellent.

One of our new favourites. Extensive menu- nice variety. So far everything we have tried is good. Reasonable prices for food and beverage.

an excellent restaurant, rising from the closure of Le Struga de village which is now closed. Food is fantastic, I had the veal Marsala, best I ever had! but service is slow. A great place in the dying gay village attended by straights and gays alike, Worth the visit.

Torro Rosso has a fixed price menu between 4 and 6 p.m. for $15. You have a choice of several entrees, including a hamburger or fried calamari, to name a few. The price also includes a 10 oz glass of beer on tap or a glass of red or white wine. I had the calamari and it came on a... More

Staying in The Village (Gay Village)

Neighbourhood Profile
The Village (Gay Village)
The rainbow pillars of Beaudry Métro Station shepherd the way into to The Village, one of the largest hubs for gay and lesbian culture in North America. With an open layout and a congenial aura, the refurbished buildings along Rue Sainte-Catherine pay a special homage to menswear and to caffeine, with showrooms and cafes. By morning, the antiquing gems along Amherst Street are packed with collectors. An incredible party spot, The Village comes alive at night, when clubs, bars, and dance halls open their doors and the revelry is high, epitomised by the fanciful trimmings of the apropos Oscar Wilde building. From May to September, the area closes to automotive traffic, allowing restaurant terraces to pour onto the streets, creating a dynamic sense of community. Les Boules Roses, thousands of pink baubles, are hung to welcome in the festivals and celebrations, including Montréal en Arts, Divers-Cité, and the Pride Parade.
