I was heading to the Bella Pella store, and there was a huge queue in front of L'Avenue. So I headed to Au Pain Perdu instead, I was hungry, so it did the trick, but I won't go back. The place is crowded, not very clean and tiny. The food is ok, but a bit pricey for what it is.... More

We stumbled onto this place since the wait at L'Avenue was too long. I had a wonderful version of Eggs Benedict, with foie gras in port sauce (instead of Hollandaise), nicely poached eggs, some type of dry sausage (instead of Canadian bacon), chantarelle mushrooms (I think) and nice bread (instead of English muffin). Very tasty..... My companion had some sort... More

Very nice sit down restaurant for breakfast. Lots to choose from on the menu. The crepes with fresh fruit sounded good, but I went for the french toast and some orange juice. It was the fanciest presentation for french toast I've ever seen and it was delicious with many different flavors throughout the dish.

Located just off busy Mont-Royal Avenue on de la Roche, this was a terrific find in a city which has a plethora of good brunch offerings. Our table selected a bit of everything, French toast with field berries and a chocolate sauce (more a dessert really, but thoroughly delicious), omeletes and various benedict concoctions, none of which was spared. Quite... More

Friendly service, good variety on menu, good portions. We both enjoyed what we had and would be back. Cozy place, good coffee. Reasonable prices.

Amazing little place, especially great for breakfast, but great food all around. Mmmmm, the toast choices were multiple and I went for multigrain which was so delicious. Staff are all good looking and charming or maybe it's just Montréal. Service was as fast as one would reasonably expect for a stellar, affordable food table service. Agreed with the other review... I have eggs benedict at restaurants whenever travel- always a treat. The Eggs Benedict at Pain Perdu were among the best I have ever had. Exceptional sauce, pulled pork and eggs done to perfection. The potatoes were amazing. I would love to know how they make the potatoes so delicious.

Breakfasts in Quebec live long in the memory and this place largely delivers. Apparently having been around for years, albeit no longer the original owners, this place knows what it does and does it well. We ate there twice. Service was friendly if slow. The food, other than some over dry fried potatoes that had been kept warm too long... More

An established plateau restaurant on a stretch of Mont Royal that has otherwise become commercialized. The decor is warm and charming with lots of wood and old windows. The prices are a bit high, but then again, the quality of the food is excellent. The omelettes, crepes, and breads are top notch. I've noticed that people have mixed feelings about... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
