This small cafe serves as part gourmet market, part coffee cafe, part souvenir shop, and part bakery, which all seems to work. The coffee/espresso is very good and made to order, but it was the selection of baked goods (in particular gluten free sweets and goodies) that was really a hit for us. Either gluten free or traditional (with gluten)... More

This coffee shop has everything you want, great coffee, amazing food (breakfast sandwiches, omelets and grilled cheese) and pastries, and even features live music everyday from local artists in the neighbourhood. Music usually playing from 10 am until around 5pm. This place closes at 6 or 7 usually so don't go too late. Also they take cash only, but there... More

We had brunch on a tuesday afternoon and we enjoyed great food (we ordered omelettes, curry/coconut soup and fresh juice) with live music which was an added bonus. Great atmosphere and lovely staff. A must-go!

I stayed at Depanneur Cafe twice during my trip in Canada. The first night I arrived in Montreal I slept at the Depanneur Cafe (at the second floor there are 3 rooms and we rented one on Airbnb, amazing) and the morning after we had breakfast. Benoit, the owner, was very friendly, and he prepared us two fruit bowls with... More

Great place to go on a Sunday afternoon to have coffee with friends. Coffee is really good, can’t comment on the food. Good service. They have live music which was nice.

A jumble of different old furniture, Musicians playing most of the day, excellent coffee and quite good light food on unmatched plates and cups. Very relaxing. Not for everyone but it definitely works and is a great environment to relax. Service a bit slow and disorganised but it doesn't seem to matter much!

I like this place because my friend and I usually come here on Sundays and I would do my German homework while she's studying as well. I don't know of a lot of places that aren't restaurants where you can hear live music and have some of the musicians sometimes ask you for requests :). The decor is very humble... More

My couchsurfing host took me to this great little place. What a lovely atmosphere. SThere is music all day long because musicians can sign up for an one-hour-opening before and just play and sing. Great relaxing atmosphere, grilled cheese sandwiches, sandwiches or crepes of various kinds, coffee, great musicians, cozy style. We were there in the cold winter in February... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
