I have been here a few times now and each time have been impressed with the service and the food. Their duck and steak are cooked perfectly and their unlimited fries are actually pretty good! Just a friendly tip that they don't serve alcohol so bring your own wine, and make sure to make reservations, especially on a weekend!

It was a busy night, the service was ok, the steaks were very good but small for the price, compared to other places in the area. The quality of the steak sauce and dessert was mediocre. What I didn't like is the waitress telling me either I eat an entree or eat enough appetizers to add to $20 a person.... More

They can't even cook a steak medium rare. The waiter tried to defend it saying that it was just the edges that were a bit more done. The inside was barely pink and unfortunately after waiting so long I was starving and decided to eat what I could, rather than wait 20 minutes while my dinning companion eats in front... More

I met with a couple of friends for dinner there last week and I ordered the flank steak. To my surprise I received a tiny steak and asked the waiter if they had mixed up my steak with a filet mignon. He said no and right away said I'll put your other 1/2 on the grill. I was surprised and... More

Getting into Montreal late, we had reservations at 8:30pm. The place was nice and cozy, loved the BYOB option, but service to get order ready was slow. We all had the steak & frites meal (great half portions for kids - they get an extra half star jut for this), and we all found the food to be very good.... More

I first ate here in March 2013 and I went home craving it. The steak was excellent, BYOB was a plus. Stopped in again in September 2014 and was disappointed. Steak was cold, smaller than what I remembered, but still delicious. Hit or miss I suppose! Worth a try anyway.

I was at steak frites with people from work and knew not to expect too much from a BYOB. The menu is fairly priced, but what you receive is the definition of average. I went with fried calamari and ribs and both were simple one note dishes. Nothing wrong there, but really just a blah evening food wise.

I was very happy with my meal here. The service was attentive and efficient, the food delicious and hot, and the atmosphere was very cozy and warm. I had been in Montreal for a few days and was looking for a good steak. I had recently had a delicious steak au poivre in Las Vegas and had an urge for... More

This Steak-Frites is smaller than its sister stores. The staff was accommodating and quickly opened our BYOB wine and brought Champagne glasses and ice-buckets. Our waiter was very laid-back and allowed us to enjoy our conversation without too many interruptions. The food was just OK. Our tuna was under seasoned and the salsa need some "heat" to balance the flavor... More

A really nice addition to the Village, Steak Frites is a comfortable upscale dining experience. The duck confit is outstanding. Bringing your own wine (there is a SAQ just a block away) complements their terrific bistro menu.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
