My friends came here for lunch after some sightseeing, and it was super-close to our hotel. The place was quite busy when we arrived, but we managed to get seating. The service was good, and fairly fast. We ordered a plate of boiled dumplings and two plates of fried dumplings. SO flavourful - especially the curry beef ones! Our sides... More

Been here twice and both times the dumplings were excellent. I love that the dumplings are made to order and you can actually see them being put together. My preference are fried over steamed. I like them a little crispy on the outside. This place is super crowded which is a good sign that this is a great place to... More

Great quality dumplings with a healthy variety to choose from. The quality and authenticity of the food is on par with the food I ate in Asia.

Great little dumpling shop in Montreal's Chinatown located on the main strip on St. Laurent Street, south of Rene Levesque. We were delighted with our choices, cold braised celery and peanut salad and two types of dumplings 1) pork/coriander/shrimp dumplings served streamed and 2) beef curry dumplings served fried - at the recommendation of our charming waitress. This meal set... More

This place is very casual and is quite boring in appearance. The service was quick while we were there but there were no napkins. The dumplings came out just warm and quite bland. We never got our water refilled either.

The food was incredible, the portions were big and the dumplings were too notch. But our waiter completely ignored us for most of the meal. We tried to get her attention just to get more water and we got that water at the end of he meal. We had to wait 20 minutes for a check after we finished.

We ordered the pork/shrimp/coriander dumplings pan fried. The filling was very good, but they basically burned our dumplings along the outside edges. We didn't really care for that. If I were to return, I would order the steamed ones. Note: The store sign that says "Mai Xiang Yuan" was above a store that had brown craft paper taped up all... More

I went with two of my friends visiting and they really wanted to eat dumpling. I read about that place that they had made to order dumplings (instead of frozen like many places), so I decided to go there. The place is nothing fancy, rather casual even, so not for a romantic date. They have about 30 selection of dumplings,... More

First, don't arrive and lunch time and expect to get in and out quickly. This place is obviously a favorite with the locals and that is as it should be. I had the pork and shrimp dumplings and the wife had the lamb and onion dumplings fried. Both were made to order and very tasty. I also had a salad... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
