Small café run by John and his sons. Super friendly staff, great coffee, good food, decent prices and there's usually football (soccer) on the tele. What's not to like ? Conveniently located in the Old Port, steps away from the Notre-Dame Cathedral and close to the Place d'Armes metro station. I've lived in the neighbourhood for years and enjoy this... More

We popped in here for a coffee and wifi before visiting Notre Dame. The staff were great and most helpful.

I expected this to be a high priced tourist trap because of its proximity to the Notre Dame Basilica but it isn't. Our breakfast and coffee was tasty and the staff were really friendly. This cute cafe is worth a visit.

Espace is in Vieux Montreal amid a plethora of good standard restaurants on Rue Notre-Dame.. It's open for breakfast and lunch only closing at 5 PM filling the niche when other restaurants haven't opened yet, the earliest around 4 PM. The interior is hard core, there is nothing fancy about it. It can be described as a take out or... More

Walked by Espace Cafe on the way to Basilica Notre Dame and stopped in for lattes and croissants. They were so good we went back and plain croissants were sold out so we got a chocolate hazelnut croissant. It was fantastic! Best I've ever eaten! Great espresso as well. Owner was very friendly and helpful.

Stopped in when on my own and had coffee and a good almond croissant. Small plain space but clean. Tried to stop for a breakfast sandwich with my husband on a Friday at 11:30 am because I had read the menu and that's what we were looking for - but they were no longer serving them at that time.

Sorry we were not able to serve you breakfast when you came in at 11:30, we normally stop serving breakfast (cracked egg sandwiches and panini) at around 11:00. There are times we are able to accommodate customers even after 11:00 but that day we had closed the grill 10-15 minutes prior to your visit and the staff was scrambling in... More

We ate our breakfast at Espace Café almost every morning during our 7-day stay in Montreal. Eating every meal out adds up very quickly and we were thrilled to find great breakfast food at very, very reasonable prices. We enjoyed their yummy buttery croissants stuffed with cheese, fried egg and tomato, pastries and coffee. The owner John, is very friendly... More

Excellent cafe. Tiny and probably not noticeable on the street side but if you manage to go you will be pleasantly surprised. Owner is very friendly - service tad bit slow but relaxed atmosphere no rush. Tried the sandwhiches and soup. Bread was so tasty. Reasonably priced. Coffees were amazing. Owner treated my children to a chocolate croissant words can't... More

The staffs are very polite and helpful and have the great will to serve till they close at 5pm. I normally go get my dinner there around 4pm but today I went at 4h45 and all food was gone. The staff was very sympathetic and he went to get all fresh vegetables and all to make me my dinner. They... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
