I appreciate the fast and courteous service at Sumo Ramen. The decor in the restaurant is oddly soothing against the brightly colored walls. For some reason, the background music was mainly a playlist of Chinese pop songs when we were eating here. I suppose that adds a multicultural dimension to the dining experience. I really like the comforting fried items... More

Went there on multiple occasions. The ramen is always great with many options and customization possibilities. The restaurant is small, so it is quickly crowded. The service is very fast and efficient.

It was my first time visiting Ramen restaurant as well as trying ramen itself for the first time. I have ordered the Shoyu broth with beef and home-made ramen noodles. We were tasting the food in about 15 minutes since we have ordered. It was delicious. Tip: Ask for recommendations, we have tried also the octupus balls which were great.... More

This is really a localized Japanese restaurant to me as the ramen I had appears to be varied for local taste. The shoyu soup base for my ramen tasted more towards being burnt than smoky and does not have the flavoursome taste of authentic shoyu soup base as one can find in Japan. Overall the ramen is just okay. Guess... More

Went with a friend at lunch craving for a rich, tasty ramen. I like spicy, and took the Volcano Ramen, extra BBQ pork, along with a side dish of kimchi. The broth was pork based, fatty, flavorful. My friend went safe, choosing the Won Ton Ramen. He thoroughly enjoyed his meal also. What could be better - cheap and delicious.... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
