We stumbled upon this place one morning on a search for breakfast and while we didn't end up trying the Kouign Amann (next time), we did have warm buttery croissants and coffee. The croissants were delicious and this place is adorable. It's tiny but if you manage to score a seat you'll feel like you're in some old timey European... More

Charming small pastry shop. I had a croissant and café au lait while I waited for the kouign amann to come out of the oven & it was totally worth it! The bonus - everything was very inexpensive. Worth a visit.

we came here early on a saturday and managed to get a seat (which is tough, there are only 3 tables). we ordered croissants, chocolatines (pain au chocolat) and the house specialty, kouign amann, along with a latte and a hot chocolate. everything tasted wonderful, and the kouign amann is out of this world. we paid $8 each for a... We walked miles to get their signature pastry (mid day) and they had none. Extremely disappointed. We purchased a small pastry that was dry and tasteless and a chocolate croissant which was good.. Our little table was a mess (wood chipped and dirty). The place needs a good scrubbing. No decaf and no sugar substitute sugars. You'd better call first... More

We walked past this on our way down from Mont Royal, and I'm so glad we did! The kouign amann was hot out of the oven, and it was PERFECT. The croissant was pretty good as well, but that kouign amann was delectable. There are about 6 seats inside, so you may have to take it to go. The hot... More

Best KOIIGN I have ever eaten! Friendly courteous staff! The kitchen is open and all you see is the chefs working with all natural ingredients.

Worth a stop when you are strolling through the Plateau neighbourhood. The specialty which I think is called a Kouign Amann, was absolutely stellar. Simple ingredients of butter, flour and sugar (with carmelized sugar topping). I would have taken a phot but ate it too quickly. I had to resist the primal urge to go back to get more! The... More

The kouign amann is out of this world and worth every calorie. I would move to Montreal just for these pastries. You must go! Cash only!

I have had kouign amanns in Seattle, New York and Boulder. All were amazing, of course (it's hard to go wrong with a caramelized croissant!). But this was the first time I've seen this pastry made as it is in Brittany -- in a round little cake that's sliced into wedges. Oh my! One of the best things I've ever... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
