Had family visiting from out of town and decided to stop here for a few pints to watch the hockey on TV and listen to some Irish music after dinner. I come here regularly so we know the place well and are never disappointed. Might not be as fancy as the downtown bars but the all round experience is far... More

two of us visited McVeigh's for the first time Tuesday (8:30PM) ordered fish and chips and a drink after waiting too long for a waitress and the pub was not busy. We had to ask her to clean off the table. The food was good but it took a long time to come. We asked ourselves, do they really want... More

Nice place for a drink and Irish music. Apparently the best Guinness in town but I could not tell the difference from any other guinness I had any other place in canada.

McVeigh's looks sketchy from the outside but is your traditional Irish pub on the inside. Great place to grab a drink with friends after work. Staff are friendly and attentive.

A good place for cheap eats! Reliable and established! This is as far from fine dinning as you will get but the food is always good. The friendly staff make this a Toronto favorite.

I will say the meal I ordered was decent pub food. Compliments to the cook. Bartender took my drink and food order and served. It was the coldest treatment and service ever for me in an eating or drinking establishment of any kind. So this pub is not on my recommended list. Don't join the Welcome Wagon ...

Living in Toronto all my life you would have thought I'd have been to this establishment. My first time was in August of this year and I was very pleasantly surprised! Great portions of good food made for an enjoyable, if not memorable, evening out with the boys.

We were lucky to have spied this pub in passing. It turned out to be an amazing evening of great beer and great music! The owner's hospitality cemented our enjoyment. If you are looking for an authentic Irish Pub, stop in and relax in this homey atmosphere!

Exactly what you want in a pub. A place with deep history, excellent draught choices, and great food. The founder Mr McVeigh is often behind the bar, pulling pints, and is a fine host. If you like a good pint of Guinness, look no further than McVeigh's. Cheers!

Charming but a little "tired" if you know what I mean. Met Mr. McVeigh, been there 54 years. Charming guy.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
