Had brunch with some friends and the place was not overly full, so we did not feel crowded. The menu has some wonderful items and the dessert case at the entrance was enough to make anyone's mouth water. We thoroughly enjoyed our food, but the service was slow and lacking attention to detail. Our pre-brunch scones and drinks arrived with... More

It's hard to enter this restaurant - the pastry display case is on your right and particularly if you're a dessert person it will certainly attract your attention. I was stopped there for awhile. But be warned - no matter how attractive the selection (and it is extensive and they are Beautiful and tasty) don't just sample from one side... More

A group of us happened upon this bistro the other night. We were impressed with the room and ambience ( not too loud ) . We were treated to a complimentary hors d'oeuvres with our drinks. I had the prix fix ($30) . The pumpkin seed , butternut squash lemon grass soup was delicious . I opted for the Lamb... More

This restaurants is about much more than desserts. The dwelling and decor are serene and relaxing and even on an overcast day, it feels cheerful.

I spent a lot of money on a large croquembouche for an event, for it to show up hard as a rock. I asked for spun sugar, I was told they can only do caramel because of the weather, but the croquembouche was cemented together with a thick layer of caramel, to the point where not one piece could be... I've been going to dtbistro (Dessert Trends) for years but hadn't been there for a while until just this past weekend. It was always a pretty place but they've redecorated and now it's just beautiful. The pics on their website are not updated. I hear they've got a very pretty garden but I've only eaten inside. The menu is unique... More

Live in the city near the restaurant so wanted to check it out. Reserved a table for 4 for a special occasion. The menu looked promising. The food was OK, nothing special and the desserts were average. The server was a little lost, maybe it was his first day on the job. We left a bit disappointed. Would not recommend this... More

I appreciate that this place has a dessert specialism, but it is a full restaurant, so why call it Dessert Trends? Having said that, the desserts were good, though the options with the prix fixe were limited. Savoury elements also enjoyable - I had the fish kebab (nicely cooked if a little too much butter), others had the roasted pesto... More

My friend and I went to DT's for afternoon tea this weekend and I was absolutely floored by the quality of the food - everything we ate was amazing, and some of the savoury foods (especially the poached pear on crustini with brie) was flat out to die for - there's obviously been a lot of thought and effort put... The service is excellent. The server knew exactly how much attention was just right. The 'standard tea set' (which is for a minimum of 2 people) can with an excellent choice of tea and an assortment of tea snacks ranging from savoury to sweet. The small dish of spreads that were served with it brought beautiful flavours to the scones... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
