As my wife is a vegetarian and after having an excellent dinner experience when this restaurant when it was located at Bloor / Bathurst, we decided to give their Veggilicious event / meal combination special a try. My wife specifically recalls from our previous experience, our waiter stating that they had been voted the best restaurant in their previous Veggilicious... More

We'd been to the old location at Bloor/Bathurst so this was the first time in the new location on College near Ossington. What a great experience! We signed up for the special bourbon tasting evening and had a wonderful time! First off, staff was so welcoming from the moment we walked in the front door. They definitely made you feel... More

This was our first time at the new location. Felt nostalgic for the old location but they're doing well with the decor/feel. The service was amazing, the best I've had at this restaurant and probably the best anywhere. Thanks Darren! The food was perfect as usual. We started with calamari, so fresh. Tried the butternut squash ravioli on special and... More

Went to this restaurant last night for dinner with some friends. I guess not knowing the environment that Southern Accent provides, I was unaware that conversation would be next to impossible forcing all of us to sit and stare at each other for a good hour and a half. I'm a young guy, I enjoy bands, but I don't enjoy... More

Sunday.2016.December.11 - 17:00 hours My wife and I decided to try this restaurant when a Travel Zoo deal was offered. The deal was $59 for dinner for 2 (regular price $118). At the time, this restaurant was at 595 Markham St, it's now at a new location of 839 College St (by Ossington). We got there just as it opened... More

First time visit to Southern Accents. A fabulous experience. From the decor, the cocktails and of course the food. All was excellent. We made a proper Cajun Tapas and everything was bang on. Started with the gumbo, an authentic one for sure, the calamari, the blackened chicken livers (yes), the catfish fingers and crab cake.

Went here for Wintericious - Had high hopes, as everyone in the family love Cajon food. The revies were quite good, so we ventured to the new location on Markham st.It is a long restuarant and very cosy with some food prep done in the front near the bar. The bartender was wonderful, we were on time but our table... More

I am Toronto local. This is my second time to this restaurant. Good Cajun food, unique enough to catch my interest. Reasonable price for the food quality. Pleasant staff. Great Cajun find in Toronto.

While the food is still good and the staff are still lovely, the new location on College is a far cry from the Victorian haunts on Markham Street. No curtains, no funky bar, no psychics....at least the drinks are still good.

Had a light supper of soup (creamed corn soup for my daughter - gumbo for me). Then shared a roasted garlic appetizer as well as an order of grilled chicken livers w/lemon aioli (recommended by a fellow diner across the way). The food was very good, but the chicken livers were amazing! We also had drinks: Gator Bait - a... More

Southern Accent has been serving the most authentic and exciting Cajun and Creole food in Toronto for 34 years. Recently relocated to the exciting College and Ossington neighbourhood, join us at the bar for a Cajun Cocktail or a bourbon from our collection accompanied by the best Calamari in the city. The restaurant is a tribute to the old victorian house in the Mirvish Village location, laced with all the old quirky artwork and charms. In a hurry? No need to worry. Grab 'n' go and high end take out are available from the express area at the entrance to the restaurant!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
