I was at biffs bistro last weekend with members of my family. We all had the beef bourguignon, which as far as I am concerned was terrible. It was a piece of meat without the traditional wine sauce or vegetables, just some very salty mashed potatoes. the whole experience was a disaster. Very disapointed for a restaurant of this calibre.

I had an unfortunate visit to Biffs. I ordered their vegetarian option of wild mushrooms with potato dauphinois. Such a simple dish that was terrible. The first order I received was cold, and the second order took 30 minutes to bring out. By this time the rest of the table were almost done eating. This was the worst vegetarian meal... More

There is so much excellence in this restaurant - it is quite authentic French bistro cooking without a lot of innovation. The wine list is extensive and accessible at the same time. For dessert, order the madeleines, made fresh for you and served warm - a rare treat. Staff are efficient and polite. The noise level, particularly in the bar,... More

We dropped in for dinner and enjoyed a very pleasant meal, and attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service. Their octopus and chorizo appetizer is generous (we shared it) and amazing. The mains were mixed - their duck confit is a disappointing, dry commercial product, but the roasted lamb was perfectly cooked, tender and delicious.

All five of us (including relatives fresh from Paris) loved the authentic French cuisine. Good thing, since it was hard to make conversation. Our table in the lounge was in a noisy thoroughfare, forcing us to read each other's lips. By 9 pm, the place had almost emptied out and it was more relaxing and intimate. The location is excellent:... More

We have been here many times over the past few years. A prix fixe dinner with beef bourguignon was reminiscent of that old joke where the guest was asked how he found the meat & he responded: "purely by chance-I moved the zucchini". Really, the beef was delicious-all 2 oz. of it, and maybe a few vegetables would help. While... More

Great place...great food...not a huge selection but it was very good. Frites too salty...you guys should tone that down a bit. Very good beverage selection. Staff excellent and very polite.

This place reminded me of a UK chain restaurant called Cafe Rouge. We plumped for the set menu of three courses but were so full we decided not to get the desserts from the set menu and just pay for the starter and main course items individually. However, the waitress still charged us for the set menu saying it worked... More

Before seeing the Pet Shop Boys Supertour (which was, by the way, FANTASTIC), we decided to do dinner right across the Sony Center. I felt like French food, so Biff’s fit the bill for that type of cuisine and with a great ambiance to match. Service is really good here. Like really good in the very attentive, but not overbearing... More

My meal was great - I had moules et frites and really enjoyed the chili-smoky flavour in the mussels. I had a few servers help me out - the one fellow was pretty aloof and the women were attentive and helpful. All in all, a really enjoyable supper. I was in the city for a conference and went to Biff's... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
