The borscht as a starter is to die for, especially on a cold late Fall day in early December. Perogies almost as good as Mum used to make. This is a small place and regrettably not accessible, but the food is heart warming.

This restaurant serves food from various ethnic groups, including Ukrainian, Russian, eastern european to name a few. We were there on a thursday night and while there patrons kept coming in. We had the Vienna Schnitzel (breaded & pan fried, topped with a fried egg, served with mashed potatoes and salad on the side) and Kotletry (homemade beef & pork... More

Portions are large and filling. Amber Schnitzel ($22.00) was presented as pictured but very bland. Beet Salad would have tasted better if chilled but the rest of the small salad plate was decent (3 strips of dill pickle, iceberg lettuce with a tomato eighth and a few thin slices of cucumber) Siberian Plemeny ($13.50) Perogies of lamb were nicely plump... Hands down, this place has the BEST BEST pirogues I have had outside of my friend's buptcha (granny). They serve it with bacon (as a vegetarian I do sans) and a light sprinkle of fresh dill. The first time I saw that I was a wee bit taken back as I wouldn't think dill should go with them but now,... More

I have visited this restaurant for many, many years without knowing its name. I honestly never looked when brought there by various friends and while I was ill for many years and unable to visit in person, my dear friends would still bring these yummie pierogis to me. I have never tried pierogis with dill sprinkled on top and now... More

Everything is quite tasty and the atmosphere is pleasant. I especially enjoyed tripe soup (flaczki). Pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms were OK. Service was quick and friendly.

My Friend and I decided we would like to have Perogies. We decided on the Amber Restaurant on Bloor near Jane. We were seated right away, the service was good, but a little slow. We have been to this restaurant twice so we decided to go again for dinner. We asked the lone waitress if we can get a table for four knowing that no one else was there except for two customers who also occupied a table for four. There was no line-up of people who wanted to get in. She said "I... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
