I don't mind overpriced but I hate it when it comes with undersized portions. The owner just doesn't get it. I complained a couple of times and finally gave up. The food is good but you leave hungry.

We went to Chiado because one of our friends, was researching Portuguese restaurants in Toronto, and he had a certain dish he wanted to eat that he once had when he was on vacation in Portugal. Well, to cut a long story short, our friend's wish did not come true, but our collective wish to have excellent Portuguese Seafood food... More

If you are looking for a great place for a fish dish, this is a good one to keep on file! The service was great! It is not a large place so it is more intimate and one where you can carry on a conversation without much competing noise.

Giant shrimps is impressive for both quality and price. The assorda is cooked in a different way now, with soaked bread and one raw egg on top, lots of garlic. Still impressive, very rich, one dish is almost good for two person. I like the wine list. If go back next time, I will try the fish. Overall the quantity... More

There is nothing in the city that even comes close. Staff and service very well done, very good wine list. Awesome bisque to start. A huge array of great fish, cooked simply and tasty. Nice risotto to accompany. For the food quality and service well worth the money, this place does not disappoint and delivers.

We recently visited Chiado for a milestone birthday dinner. It has been a number of years since we were last there and they didn't disappoint. The same impeccable service and amazing seafood, Chiado is truly the best seafood restaurant in the city! For our appetizers we had grilled sardines and carpaccio of grouper. For our main courses we had the... More

Just had dinner at this elegant fish restaurant and although it looks like nothing on the outside, it is lovely and intimate on this inside with professionalism and delicious food. They do the 'meet your meal' kind of thing which is kind of charming and the waiter knows everything. Lots of fish choices, creative veg combos and nice desserts. If... More

While hipster restaurants are popping up all over Toronto and stealing the culinary scene, I think it's important to remember those tried and true restaurants. The amazing Portuguese restaurant Chiado opened in Toronto in 1991 and has been consistently amazing. Cudos to a restaurant that after 26 years continues to be incredible. I will be honest, I am a fair-weather... More

We have been wanting to return to this restaurant and finally had a chance. The food was every bit as good as the last time if not better. We started with grilled squid accompanied with grilled vegetables. They were very tender and perfectly cooked with a wonderful olive oil glaze. Mains were one of the daily fish with risotto. What... Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
