The restaurant identifies itself as a 'smokehouse' which means you get a good selection of fish and meat along with salads. The food tastes very fresh. The service provided by the servers and owner is superb, and the bill at the end of your meal will seem very reasonable.

I don't remember what made me try Karelia for the first time but it's in my neighbourhood and I walked by many times before I finally went in. It's now my go-to place for brunch in my hood. If I've got visitors I want to impress, we're definitely going to Karelia. The food is fresh and delicious and a welcome... More

I purchased a GROUPON after reading extensive reviews about this establishment. We were not disappointed. The service was attentive. All The cakes were scrumptious. The French Press coffee was great as was the pot of tea. The place was exceptionally clean. I will definitely recommend this to anyone who values afternoon tea and treats between 3 pm and 5 pm.

My friend and I LOVE Afternoon Tea, so when I noticed that there was a Groupon for Afternoon Tea at Karelia Kitchen, I jumped on it. I purchased two Groupons for Afternoon Tea and was there in the summer with one friend and recently with another friend and her daughter. Karelia Kitchen is a small Scandinavian restaurant/cafe and not the... More

Something different in our wonderful, multicultural Toronto. The food is fresh and excellent. It's a wonderful place for lunch, bright and cheerful. The staff are helpful, attentive, helpful but not overbearing. A pleasant afternoon surprise and open for a late lunch.

It a wonderful place to go for brunch. ..lunch or dinner...and a very close to Dufferin subway station. It's casual in the day and at night the table cloths and candles come out making it a cozy environment. The staff and owners are lovely! The food is very fresh with quality ingredients. .. They even smoke their own fish which... More

Had lunch here with a friend. Relatively small place so I would recommend reserving ahead of your visit. Nice Scandinavian open face sandwiches. I had a selection of salads. Tasty and fresh. This area of Toronto (I think it's called Bloorcourt) is developing quickly, quite a few interesting places nearby (Mercer Union Gallery and more)

We had another delicious lunch at Karelia. The food is fresh and very good in a relaxed and friendly environment. The staff is helpful and efficient. It's a great local place. We wish it were closer to our neighbourhood but we find it worth the trek. Give it a try as it's right near the Dufferin subway station. The open... More

We went as a group of friends. The place was not busy when we got there and we ordered drinks and our food right away. Everyone loved the food. I had the hamburger which was sooooo tasty! My friends enjoyed the asparagus salad. They had great baked goods as well. Unfortunately, the service was not great. Some of us received... More

After visiting Sweden last year we were excited to find this place. We had 2 different asparagus appetizers, pumpkin dumplings, smoked salmon, potato pancakes, and duck pate. All were simple, fresh and delicious. They have a take away counter so we bought some smoked foods to bring home. Great restaurant and looking forward to going back.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
The go-to area for new business start-ups, the spry and creative persona of the West End thrives along its streets. Its independent boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and shops offer brands that can't be found elsewhere. Buildings with ground floor consumer spaces sport up-top artist's lofts, and the West End attracts artists, designers, and fashion industry professionals to its living quarters. It is in the cross-hairs of gentrification, but still resisting it with ironic relish. Hot deals can still be found here on furniture and knick-knacks,. Its call to culinary glory is in its well-priced homemade Polish food, hosting Toronto's go-to spots for hot pierogis and cold borscht. High Park, the largest green space in the city, is a place for dreamers and poets to wander and rest, not to mention a number of energetic actors staging outdoor plays in the summertime.
