We had lunch here and everything was perfect. Apparently the chef makes the menu daily based on fresh produce etc. We had the the main which comes with a side and then shared the corn fritters. The corn fritters was large serving and delicious, cooked perfectly and didn't seem fatty at all which they sometimes can be. I had the... More

S soon as you walk in and approach to the counter, you are welcome with a smile offering you gently and patiently whatever great combination you will choose on the menu. The plates are generous, well prepared end comforting and the prices are surprisingly cheap fo Toronto. It is worth the detour!

They had a prix fixe dinner with a glass of wine or beer for 25$. The appetizer was delicious. For the main course you had a choice of meat, fish or vegetarian. All presented in a professional way. The desert was very nice and gluten free. There was a singer with a band that played beautiful songs. The chef came... More

The lunch menu is terrific. Great portion sizes especially with the burger and fries. Very friendly staff and great service. Lovely room for private dining as well.

Maybe it helps I live over this bistro but I can't help but sit here with a good book and eat on the patio as often as possibly. The food is fantastic and so is the atmosphere... The only thing I'd change are the bizarre hours... Seems to be open when it pleases them

Great place to stop for a coffee and something light to eat in a neighbourhood that appears to be up and coming. Their baguettes are delicious! Coffee is really good too and doesn't taste like the cheap stuff. Definitely quality and everything tastes homemade. I believe they are offering beer now too! The only thing to complain about would be... More

Was looking for a place to grab a quick coffee and kill some time and found Paintbox Bistro. Nice decor, coffee was good. Had an excellent muffin. Could not get free wifi to work but did not ask staff, I am sure they would have helped if it was important.

The Bistro is a great little place to meet for a quiet coffee and conversation with a colleague or a client. Service is friendly but not intrusive (let them know you want your coffee or tea "in" and they'll serve it in a pretty mug instead of the recyclable cup). Easy to reach by streetcar on the Dundas line, as... More

A group of us stopped in after a show at Daniels Spectrum, and they were nice enough to try and accommodate us on the patio. Service wasn't the best out there, hard to get drink refills, but other than that it was OK. The pulled pork poutine was wonderful! Not all options were listed on the menu though. We found... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
