Celebrated a friend's birthday. Amazing food, but in a cool casual environment. Great service! Started with a complimentary amuse voucher of pork and applesauce with delicate blossoms. The tuna tartare was excellent - served with nori, sesame and potato crisps. Flatiron steak with fries was well seasoned. Dessert was so good, no time for pictures! Would definitely go back.

This has got to be my best Summerlicious meal ever! Service was great and inviting as soon as we walked in, and the food- they tasted as good as they looked, and they looked like works of art. We were a party of 4 and went on a Thursday night, they were at half capacity. The decor was classy and... More

I wanted to go to a restaurant that was out of our usual 'hood of North Toronto so my friend suggested L'Ouvrier. I made reservations for 7:30, thinking it was a reasonable time. Turns out we were the first ones in the restaurant for dinner!! It's more of an 8-9:30pm kind of place full of a much younger and hipper... More

We went to l'Ouvrier on a Wednesday night and the place was nicely quiet. The service was great, available and present just as required. As starters, we had the oysters and the beet salad which were both very good. Then we had the tuna tataki (delicious) and the striploin that comes with a mountain of good fries. As the grand... In what was a last minute decision to go out for dinner on a Saturday night, we were very fortunate to find a table at this great downtown restaurant. Located on a busy stretch of Dundas St West, maybe a block or two West of Bathurst, this restaurant offers it all - a unique, cool and spacious setting, attentive and... More

The minimalistic menu simplifies your order and allows you to enjoy the atmosphere and your table's company. Delicious food worthy of waiting for a free seat.

Great brunch! We had the brisket grilled cheese sandwich and it was yummster! Great food! My only complaint is they need a bigger sign outside! Somewhat difficult to see.

Clean, bright with cool white lacquered tables. Lovely service and big bodums of fresh coffee everywhere. Easy going staff serving good food. One must share the homemade scones with apple butter. The smoked salmon with Rosti and a side of oh so fabulous bacon is the bomb!! A perfect way to start any weekend morning!

We ate at L'Ouvrier when it first opened, and went back again last night. The meal was marvelous, the service attentive and timely, and the prices reasonable. The tables are large and not at all crowded. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
