We have had the Corned Beef & Pickled Tongue sandwiches and found them both delicious. A bit greasy but delicious. We got them to go on College Street, and even the crowded restaurant made for a fabulous atmosphere. I would recommend them.

I stopped by here for a meal after a long flight and only after having been sustaining myself on coffee for nearly 20 hours. I sat in here and ordered the fried chicken. It was good in terms of juiciness, but felt it was lacking in the crunch and flavor department. It was almost no salt, and could needed some... More

Landed at the Toronto Airport T3 and we got to our connecting flight with time to stop at Caplansky's Deli. Service was fast but waitress had forgotten to put on a smile which lasted the entire time! Other than this negative portion, the menu was very different than the normal bacon and egg breakfast and allowed me to try some... More

Poor, breakfast latkes were greasy, rye toast was tiny and bacon was mediocre. Would not recommend at all even at the airport.

What's to say? The food was good, but it doesn't hold a candle to the best Jewish delis in the States. Sorry, guys, Caplansky's couldn't survive a year in New York or Miami. There was a little bit of "deceptive advertising." The sandwiches were stacked good and high, but the slices of rye bread were on the small size. Absolutely... More

It's wonderful to visit this place and get a good smoked meat sandwich. While it isn't Schwartz's (I'm and ex-Montrealer), this place helps me get a good fix. Bread is great and the meat is tasty. I like the medium to fatty smoked meat and it's they way a sandwich should be made. Fries are plentiful and well seasoned. We... More

We visited for a light bite early afternoon and were warmly welcomed and quickly seated by the staff. We ordered the bagel with smoked BBQ meat and also a portion of the macaroni and cheese. The meat in the bagel was tender, well seasoned and delicious. Would have again. The macaroni and cheese was an absolute write-off, potentially the worst... More

Positives: Service was quite good. Quick and friendly. The taste of the food (latke poutine and smoked meat sandwich) was excellent. The mustards. While their "hot" mustard was just ok, the ballpark and deli style mustards were fantastic. Negatives: Portion size / pricing needs to be adjusted. When paying $15 for a smoked meat sandwich and fries, I expect to... More

When we hired a taxi and got all the way out to this place we found it was closed, even though websites said it was open. That was very disappointing as we looked forward to some nice deli. Maybe next time!

Caplansky's is everything you hope for in a Jewish deli. Great food and great ambiance. The smoked meat sandwich and latkes were superb as was the lox and cream cheese bagel. Save room for the maple with beef bacon donuts! This place is guaranteed to please and you certainly won't leave hungry.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
