My husband and I love going their for homemade Finnish food. Service was good too. It's located in an area where you will find locally owned shops that offer unique Canadian gifts.

Before sending everyone off on their flights home, 14 of us had breakfast at the Hoito. We found the restaurant clean, staff very friendly and helpful as well as the food was delicious. Most of us had their famous Finnish Pancakes and those that had something different were happy with their choice. Even with the large number of us, we... More

Cafeteria type of setting, with capable staff. They were able to explain / describe the Finnish menu items and make recommendations. Yes, the Finnish pancakes were worth the trip downtown! They were perfect! I had both the pancakes and the rice pudding... where I used the pudding and two-berry sauce, as stuffing for the pancake and rolled it up together.... More

Really great service and authentic Finn fare. No nonsense atmosphere-all emphasis on the food and cool retro seating. Must eat a pancake! Pretty much everything is very tasty. Great little shops across the street including a scandinavian food shop. Well worth stopping at for breakfast before driving up to look for amethyst north of the city.

Long considered a Thunder Bay staple, the Hoito has seen some ups and downs in recent years as a lack of attention to detail and increased competition has eaten into its once dominant breakfast market share. Now, with a new chef from Southern Ontario at the helm, and new menu items and seating arrangements, the Hoito seems reinvigorated. Lineups at... More

Finn pancakes, eggs over easy and bacon or sausage to start the day? The Hoito is the place to go! The menu is varied, the selections are many, the Hoito is renown for good food without being pretentious or anything more than great food at a great price. A staple of Thunder Bay dining, everyone passing through Thunder Bay should... More

Weekdays you can often walk in and sit down. Sunday morning? Not a chance. I ate there many, many times when I lived there. Food is always good and good value. Eating alone? Don't be afraid to go sit at the counter! Talk to someone new! Never disappointed with anything on the menu, but it really is all about the... More
