Our first visit for lunch included the fish and chips along with the chowder and haddock - everything was delicious! The service by Yvonne and Nadia was fast and super-friendly! A hidden gem and great find!

I had the lobster roll-incredible value for the price and well balanced, not too much mayo, very good. My husband had the fish and chips, also very good with excellent fries. Hard to get fish and chips without some grease, but these appeared to be...light and with minimal grease. Always a lot of customers, indicating that this family run business is very popular. Sometimes a bit of a wait due to the volume of customers, but the staff work quickly to get orders out and are helpful and pleasant in the process. If you are craving fish and chips I would recommend Fredies or Phils (Quinpool Rd).More

We found this restaurant while looking for a place to eat in Halifax. It was highly reviewed and we did not regret choosing it. The restaurant is unassuming: it looks like a take-out place, with seating for maybe a couple of dozen people. It's family...run and the staff were very friendly. The prices were good and the food was delicious! (Or maybe it was because we were quite hungry.) What impressed us was the size of the portions--the lobster roll was huge and the fish & chips were large and deep fried to perfection. The fried scallops were bigger and more flavourful than anything we've had in Vancouver. The only thing missing was that we couldn't get a full lobster meal here, but the roll more than made up for it with all the fresh lobster meat.More

We are visitors who came here three years ago and wouldn't miss this time. The staff is very friendly and efficient indeed. The restaurant is very small and not fancy, but the food is great. Fish is ultra fresh. We had a delicious lobster roll...and a bowl of very good chowder with a really tasty piece of haddock included. The chips with the roll were enough to share. A small unassuming storefront that serves up the best fresh seafood fish, scallops, oysters and chips. Loaded with locals. Crowded over lunch. Worth the effort and wait. Had fish and chips that was excellent. Large white fish pieces. Another in our party had lobster sandwich....Also excellent. If you come to Fredies, you need t look hard or you'll miss it. Highly recommended for fish and local fare. Also, very affordable. basically, a cheap meal.More
