We live in Halifax and go to Gio 3-4 times a year. We have never been disappointed! The menu changes seasonally and is always fresh and interesting. Currently, the charcuterie board is massive, very generous portions, and could be a meal on its own. I...had the duck, and it was perfect. I always try to have at least one dinner at Gio when I'm visiting Halifax. The food is always exceptional, however, this last time I didn't find the seafood chowder was quite as good as it has been in the past. I hadn't eaten at...Gio in a couple of years. The food and service were both good at Gio. Not the best food I have had in Halifax. I got the sea scallops with risotto. The portion size was pretty good, came with 4 scallops which were cooked well. The risotto itself was a little...bit under cooked I would say. Overall a good experience and ambiance. Our mains were local scallops with pea risotto. All so yummy and a beautiful set of flavours. The scallops were cooked perfectly and a very healthy number of them. Great Sancerre wine with the meal which paired superbly. The service was friendly and very attentive....Always a great meal here.More

We were really looking forwards to dinner here but we were disappointed by both the choice of menu and the cooking. Our server hurried us along and we got the feeling they were all waiting to go home. First of all we were given the...lunch menu which was obviously not available at 8pm in the evening. When the right menu appeared we were told there was no lobster. Saturday night and no lobster?! My husband started with the scallop cerviche which he said had little flavour and I had the chowder whcih was absolutely enormous. I sent over half of it back as it was far too big for a starter. My husband then had the halibut in dashi broth with pickled vegetables which he said was not particularly pleasant and I had the scallop and green risotto. I chose this because I love risotto but I'm sorry that was not a risotto by any stretch of the imagination. I know some restaurants play with words and create food to appear like other foods (cauliflower couscous for example) but this was not even a pleasant taste. Gio is adjacent to the Prince George hotel, in fact you walk through the hotel right into the restaurant. The food was excellent as was the service. Everything was beautifully presented.
