We wanted a nice Italian meal and this fit the bill. I had been many years ago and the restaurant seemed higher end. We were a bit disappointed with diners in shorts and flip flops for Saturday night supper and young kids after 7:00 pm....The food was good., but not memorable. We found the service to be inconsistent. When we wanted to linger, the servers were all over us, and when we wanted attention, they were nowhere to be found. Despite physical distancing, we found it too loud and it was missing the intimate ambience of previous visits. Prices were consistent for the food and service received. The four stars are for the quality of the food, but we would suggest other spots for a higher end Italian meal in Halifax.More

However, not the right price point for the quality of food. Service was superb! Wine list excellent and great value. While the food was very tasty, the cost wasn't worth it. The ambiance is not what we remembered; it has been a few years since...we last dined there. The wines were good value. Did I say service was excellent?More

A FOODIE for DaMaurizio in the Brewery Market, Halifax. A mainstay of the Halifax Fine Dining scene for so many years, DaMaurizio very seldom disappoints if you are looking for an Italian menu. I have been there many times over the years but don’t recall...doing a Foodie for them. Our visit this week was to celebrate a birthday for a friend, hence a Tuesday evening visit. We had a 6:00pm reservation and when we arrived we noticed there were only two other tables being occupied. However an hour later, the restaurant was comfortably filled in this quiet pandemic period for our restaurants. A few differences to expect: tables are spaced to conform, menus are printed for one use only, no linen on the table which is decked with a white plastic cover, the cutlery has been pre-wrapped on a side plate, staff are all masked and best of all, offers a quieter atmosphere for chatting. I started with a Sainte Claire Chablis from Burgundy, France while taking our time to peruse the apps and mains. DaMaurizio calls their menu selections “exquisite variations on Italian cuisine”. One of my all time favourites here had always been lamb shanks however this dish hasn’t been on the menu for a few years. Lamb is offered as chops and they were on my short list of choices. A basket of freshly baked bread arrived before we ordered. Margie & I chose the same antipasti selection. “Cozze” - Fresh mussels, garlic, onion, chilies, white wine, leek, tomato and fresh herbs, topped with a piece of grilled crostino. I enjoyed the rather large serving and used the bread and soup spoon to enjoy the broth. Truly two courses in one. Hector had Calamari: flash fried and topped with roasted tomato, sautéed garlic and crushed chilies. Janice chose from the “Insalate”. “Romana”: Crisp romaine hearts, garlic lemon and caper dressing, crispy pancetta, cracked black pepper, focaccia croutons and shaved grana Padano. Everyone sent back empty bowls and plates. We had already ordered our mains, however, there was a nice interval between courses and no feeling of being rushed by our server. Since the Chablis was gone, my second wine would be a red Italian Villa Cafaggio Chianti Classico from Tuscany, Italy. It was a good match for both Janice and my Secondi. Janice ordered the “Filetto”. Grilled AAA Angus beef tenderloin, wild mushroom demi, whipped potato, crispy fried onions. Since she isn’t a mushroom fan, I got to enjoy the generous serving of wild mushroom demi. She also shared about a third of her filet which was perfectly prepared and very tender. The three of us all ordered the same “Secondi”: Vitello Scaloppine Aragosta - Tender veal, fresh lobster, San Marzano tomato, sherry with a generous splash of cream, lemon risotto and veggies of the day. The serving of veal was very generous and indeed tender. The small piece of lobster tail was just perfect. It was definitely fresh and appeared to have been poached. The lemon risotto was exquisite. After an appropriate wait, we were presented with the "Dolci" dessert menu. Four choices narrowed to two. Hector picked the chocolate gelato which came with a candle and a Happy Birthday on the large plate. I was tempted by the Tiramisu but went with Cioccolato: the chocolate cake with a buttercream icing and vanilla anglaise. I should have taken better notes but I trust my picture will convey the goodness of this selection. We are blessed with good Italian Fine Dining in Halifax and Dartmouth. DaMaurizio is certainly senior among the restaurants that have survived the test of time. I am not sure if Café Chianti has been around a little longer. I would be remiss if I didn’t note that Il Trulo at Kings Wharf in Dartmouth is closed and for sale. It was an excellent place that we enjoyed on many special occasions. We had great attention to detail from our server Kelly and it was a pleasure to chat with owner Tanya once again. DaMaurizio is closed on Sundays but open at 5pm, six days a week.More

It had been quite a while since we last dined at Da Maurizio - mainly due to the Covid19 pandemic. With our anniversary fast approaching and restrictions relaxed we decided to venture out and celebrate - along with three other couples. The dinning experience was...fantastic. The high standards of service and food were still there! It was awesome! Everything our table ordered was perfectly cooked and presented. This is a high class restaurant and deserving of its outstanding reputation!!More

Wonderful restaurant with a well rounded menu. Something for everyone. Everything we had was delicious. The meatballs were especially tasty along with the radicchio salad. We had the beef tenderloin for a main and it was delicious but a bit on the small side. Our...wait staff was very personable.More

One of the finest restaurants in Nova Scotia. The quality of food is equal to any top Michelin rated restaurants in the world. From South Africa to Australia to China I have always compared them to da Maurizio and they all came up short. One...of my wife's favourites is Filet Mignon with Yorkshire pudding on a bed of Black Rice, this is a dish for the sophisticated palates while genuine Yorkshire puddings are hard to produce and must be consumed within 10 minutes after leaving the oven. Hence most Chefs made it more like bread for a longer shelf life and it becomes Yorkshire Bread and not the pudding. The services of da Maurizio from booking to table are warm, friendly and with attention to all details. Both the kitchen staff and servers always go beyond to please their customers and make one feels at home every visit. We have always enjoyed our visits especially when we want to impress foreign visitors the high standard of Nova Scotia Restaurant. We may be a small province like a sparrow but we have all the parts that an eagle has to fly on our own with grace and achievability.More

Awesome meal! Had the beet salad, fish stew, gnocchi, encrusted halibut, tiramisu, port and two glasses of wine! Everything was very very delicious! We’ve been to Italy many times and this food is as close as it gets to authentic italian food! Hope to return!

I did not have halibut at Da Maurizio: I had veal with lobster sauce, excellent and very tasty. The halibut was at Chives Canadian Bistro. My apologies to both fine restaurants for the error.

Was here for our anniversary and we were not disappointed, food was awesome, the scollops dish as an app also works great as your main along with some other apps. We split Caesar salad as well as meatballs, each had the scollops. Was a perfect...amount of food and it was off the chart!! Highly recommend going to this restaurant!!More
