I am from Dartmouth and have had fish and chips pretty much everywhere in town. They double deep fry their fish; once in the morning and then once to order, it sits out for hours on the counter between. The fries are ... not good...at all.. tartar sauce comes in packaged containers. I think they owe it to themselves to change it up a bit as the spot is adorable and it used to be pretty good. For now, I would try anywhere elseMore

I have been eating here for many years and if you are in the mood for a massive helping of clams and chips or haddock tips and chips, this is the only place to go.

Great greasy diner. The decor is stereotypical greasy diner. Food is very well prepared and generous proportions. Service is friendly and attentive. It is small and gets very busy at the lunch hour. Parking is in back. Location is a little close the the Dartmouth...General.More

Stunningly good, simple seafood. Had the fried clams and scallops... the batter was just right to bring out the taste of the seafood... yummy. Don’t come here to lose weight, though... the sign says « Get your fat pants ready » for a reason...

Always friendly service and good fish and chips. Hard not to get the clams as they are the best but tonight I wanted fish and they didn’t disappoint.

Johns Lunch has the best Clams and Chips anywhere. They are crispy, hot and resh. The staff are always pleasant no matter how busy they are. You may have to wait for your order, but it is worth it.

We had long heard about John's Lunch, just never got around to going there. At last. Wonderful. Large portions of fish, lightly battered, not overly heavy or greasy and superbly tasty. Fries good, cole slaw fresh and large portions, well prepared not salted (neither were...the fries). Just simply great, tasty, fresh food.More

My wife and I went in here today for the clams, which we have had before. We are in from Toronto and the warm friendly service that we received from Kathy was above and beyond. I used to say go there just for the clams...but now I suggest you go there for the service. Amazing. What a wonderful experience. Kathy, you made our trip extra special. ps: the food was wonderful and as great as we remembered.More
