Sunday brunch

We went with friends for Sunday brunch. I had the traditional eggs benedict. The eggs must have come from dwarf chickens they were so small and the ham and hollandaise sauce were pretty sparse portions but the muffin appeared to be home made (delicious) and the hollandaise sauce is very tasty (very lemony). The homefries were generous. I would get it again. My hubby had the Market breakfast and it was good. The fish cakes are lemony. As I've found with many local restaurants during the Covid restrictions, the service is quite slow but if you are there to socialize and not in a rush then it isn't a problem. It's also a small location and it gets very noisy when at peak capacity so be prepared to have to raise your voice. Overall good. I would go for brunch again.

Your Average Irish Pub

Food was decent, atmosphere was average. The kitchen made a mistake with our order, however, the server was prompt to address the issue. Service was quick, friendly, and made several quality checks. Live music also appeared later in the evening.

Really Good!

Went here for brunch while in town. Went on a Saturday just after noon and had $5 ceasar and mimosa’s so that was a good start. Had a special for fried chicken eggs benidict...I know sounds unusual but I ordered it and it was the best eggs benny I have had. So good. Service was friendly and helpful and overall experience was top notch. Give it a try....it’s great.

An overcooked burger, noisy, and not a mask to be seen on any staff member.

2nd visit to the newly opened Rothesay location. Had a C&K Burger that was overcooked and tough on a bun that was so dry it fell apart after several bites. Server was asked why none of the staff was wearing a mask despite the Medical Health Officer's recent urging that masks be worn in indoor public spaces. Was told that staff did not have to wear masks and later that if customers wanted server to wear a mask they would have to ask.

Hi, let me first start off by apologizing that our burger was not up to the standard it should have been. We take a lot of pride in the product we put out, and when we don’t meet that expectation we accept full responsibility and would have been happy to make it up to you. However we also take a lot of pride in our staff who work extremely hard for us, and the way you talked to our staff was not acceptable. Under the Green Phase our vaccinated staff has the option to wear masks, and some as their personal choice still do. If that is something that makes you uncomfortable, as your server told you she had a mask and would have been more than happy to wear it for you. If you’re not comfortable with that, then perhaps we are not the place for you. Cheers

Dont waste your time!

Had a booking there with some friends for a birthday party. Were seated. Waited over an hour for some very simple meals. They served others that hadnt been there as long as us before us. Food came and mine was cold poutine and a not very appetizing pulled pork sandwich. Didnt finish food. Didnt tip. Wont be back. Do yourself a favour and goto a different restaurant when in the area.

At Cask we do our best to admit mistakes and go above and beyond to try and rectify them. Like any business we are not perfect so if you did not enjoy your food we 100% apologize. However we remember your table quite well, as our other owner was there and the server remembers you as well. You did not wait over an hour for food, you waited half an hour according to the chit time, and the table across from you received their food before you as they were a table of 2 that ordered nachos and wings which can be done very quickly. You were a table of 12 that had many different items on it, including steaks so the cooking time varies, as everything is cooked in house. On top of that you were quite rude to our server who had done nothing wrong, so while we apologize if you did not enjoy your food, perhaps we are not the place for you and we are ok with that. An Irish Gem

Absolutely love everything about this place. The atmosphere, the staff, and the food are amazing. My husband and I just started going here recently and now it’s a weekly tradition! We’ve been for breakfast, lunch, and dinner....and each time was perfect. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive, even when it’s busy we still feel looked after. Most importantly, the food....phenomenal. We’ve tried many different items so far and each time it’s been cooked to perfection. We love how everything is cooked in house so it’s always fresh and even when it’s busy it still comes hot! It’s definitely worth the time to visit this little Irish gem.

we used to absolutely love this restaurant. They used to have the best fish n chips around and always a great experience. Now with prices at all restaurants going up, we have noticed food quality has taken a huge drop.Cask n Kettle is no different which is very disappointing. Today for instance my wife and I stopped into the KV location for lunch. The waitress and front end staff were great. excellent service. My wife ordered A western omelette, unfortunately they weren't aloud to make it after noon hour so she settled for the western sandwich. She specifically asked for zero salt on her fries as she has to be on low sodium diet. I order the Cod and Chips. So when the meals arrived , yep her fries were coated in salt, not impressed. What pissed us off was the fact we heard the waitress tell the kitchen staff specifically no salt. They apparently didn't care and did what they wanted. The manager did bring us some "home fries" before the kitchen had a chance to salt them. My cod and chips was a big disappointment as well. years ago Cask and Kettle had the best cod and chips. That is no longer the case. The seafood place next door would have given me a better quality fish n chips for less money. We did advise our waitress and the manager and they did take the western off of our bill. The issue we have is that we had the same issue not more than a month ago, but thought let's give them a second chance. Well we did. However that is it, never again. With restaurants charging outrageous prices now, the food quality is terrible. We won't be back.

Hi Robin, sorry to hear we let you down. Our fries are normally done with Parmesan and Rosemary so they made a mistake when they saw plain fries and thought it just meant regular fries. Definitely a mistake on our end and they fixed it right away once it was pointed out but we definitely apologize. Our kitchen staff take a lot of pride in what they do and we also take a lot of pride in them so it was never a case of them not caring or doing what they want. It is a human business and we all make mistakes and we are quick to acknowledge them when they happen. As far as the quality, nothing has changed with regards to our suppliers or the fish you received. It’s the same product it has always been and is prepared the exact same way, so if it has not been up to par your last few visits we apologize for that. Ordered a share plate for $25 and only had three mozzarella sticks, plain kettle chips, and wasn’t barely enough for two people. I find these places uptown are always over priced and it’s nothing special. Cool atmosphere and waitress was nice

Slow food service

Stopped for beer and late lunch. Outside deck was very nice. Food took over 45 minutes to arrive, waitress said when we ordered it was likely to be slow and it was sadly. 2 tables who arrived after us got theirs 1st which annoyed me but in the end food was good, chicken and waffles/ fish tacos. Maybe just an off day as it was Canada Day and busy.

The reason your server mentioned there was a wait on food is so you know ahead of time when you order, and can decide whether you have time to stay. Review for new Rothesay location

Went here just before Christmas for my birthday. We were a party of 6. Service started out fine but dwindled off to where we had to chase the server for the bill. Ordered 2 appetizers, one of which we found a hair in. When we brought it to the server’s attention it was almost a joke. Nothing was done, no offer to replace or take it off the bill. A $17 appetizer that we couldn’t eat. My husband’s burger had a freezer burnt bun and my steak was dry. Spent close to $300 here, unlikely we will do it again

Decent and Meets Expectation

Food is decent. Staff is friendly. We came at a busier hour (approx 8pm) and the staff is a little stressed. We ordered Irish poutine, the portion is quite large but is a little too oily. The Irish burger was good. It’s a fine pub but nothing spectacular, although what more can we ask in a small town like this?

Fantastic pub in downtown Saint John

I stopped in with some colleagues for a late dinner this evening while attending a conference in Saint John; the hotel we were staying at recommended going here and am I ever glad they did. I couldn’t believe how busy it was for a Monday at 8 o’clock. I thought by the looks of things we would be waiting for a seat but our waitress was in the middle of clearing a table when we walked in the door and greeted us immediately and got us in a nice booth by the window. We were informed the tap beer were on sale for $6 pints and the selection was plentiful, I tried two different pints before trying a house cocktail “old fearless” which was one of the best drinks I’ve had in a while. Once it was time to order we were advised it was a very busy night and had run out of fish and I was planning on ordering the fish and chips- our waitress (I feel awful I forget her name, but believe it was Melanie), informed us of the wing night special and also advised trying the weekly feature which was lasagna and it was fantastic. I also tried macaroni and cheese bites for the first time and wish I had ordered more. Overall great atmosphere, phenomenal food and exceptional service. I can see why we were told to check out this pub and I will be back my next trip to Saint John. Check them out!

A great place for a drink, food, and atmosphere

After 2 days of very long driving from central Illinois, Crystal was an amazing breath of fresh air. In the middle of the internet outage she did everything to make our evening and meal relaxing and something to remember. Her recommendations for drinks and food made it very easy to order. Her personality was exactly what we needed to have a great time and have some laughs. The Sheppard pie, fish tacos, and fish and chips were hot and delicious.

Hearty, delicious breakfast

We discovered the Cask & Kettle for dinner one evening while in town 3 years ago and it was fine. This year we were looking for breakfast options and were happy to discover it's open for breakfast. We were extremely happy with the quality of the food as well as the service and prompt preparation. I had a fish cake on the side with mine and it was tremendous! Definitely a great option for breakfast in the area, much moreso than the nearby hotel restaurants, both of which we've tried for breakfasts and found them only average. The Cask and Kettle is only a couple of blocks walk from both the Hilton and Delta and its breakfast are served just as quickly as at the hotels but with MUCH better quality food. Give them a try!

Not the best of reunions

We went for a family reunion. The service was fair for a Tuesday night, the atmosphere was good music was a bit loud but otherwise nice. We were a party of 9 . We ordered drinks and our Mains once everyone arrived. I ordered the fish and chips with regular fries. On arrival it looked fantastic, however when I cut into the fish parts were undercooked and nearly still raw. The fries were a big disappointment, as they had been overfried as well. Now I thought the side of coleslaw was going to be great, however they had added too much dill flavoring that overpowered it. Now I like tangy and or different variations of coleslaw, but this was just nasty.
